A fight broke out between Turkish politicians in parliament, with punches, kicks, bottles and office equipment being thrown. The parliament erupted in violence during a debate on government control over the appointment of judicial officials. The bill comes amidst graft scandal in Tukey the recent fall out of which has been a massive dismissal of police officers.
The fall out from Turkey’s recent graft scandal was the dismissal of police officers. The Turkish government has sacked police chiefs in 16 provinces amidst a corruption probe into alleged graft in PM Tayyip Erdogan’s cabinet. The move comes after 350 police officers were dismissed in Ankara on Tuesday. The crisis erupted in December, when dozens of leading businessmen and political figures, including the sons of three ministers, were rounded up in police raids in Istanbul and Ankara. It also comes shortly before local elections due in March and presidential polls in August.
