Nelson Mandela, former President of South Africa, died at the age of 95, Reuters news agency reports citing incumbent President Jacob Zuma.
In early June, Mandela was hospitalized with a lung infection. In November, the South African government confirmed that he is in critical but stable condition.
Nelson Mandela was the first black president of South Africa. He was born on July 18, 1918, and he was in office as President from May 1994 to June 1999. In his youth Mandela started to fight against the government to abolish apartheid in the country, and he spent 27 years in prisons. In 1993, Nelson Mandela received the Nobel Peace Prize.
