The polyclinics of Armenia are running out of the supplies of the H1N1 Influenza (swine flu) vaccine as the outbreak keeps claiming more lives.
At a news conference on Wednesday, Director of the Health Ministry’s National Center of Disease Control and Prevention Gayane Sahakyan said that a total of 800 doses are now available in the primary healthcare centers.
“Every year we had a great difficulty in realizing the vaccine; this year, however, 3,000 doses were consumed in just one week. It was really very bad, as we saw serious complications, but people understood at least that vaccination is important,” she said, adding that they expect to import more batches of the vaccine to Armenia in the near future.
The toll in the deadly virus is 18 in Armenia as of Wednesday afternoon. Two of the deaths were reported Wednesday afternoon.
Seven more patients are in hospital in a critical condition. They are on medical ventilation.
