The municipal council of Spain’s Burjassot city has approved a motion to recognize the Armenian Genocide.
The measure, submitted to the city authorities by the political party Compromis, calls for an official acknowledgement of the 1915-1921 killings of the 1.5 million Armenians in the Ottoman Empire, reports the Armenian Foreign Ministry’s press service.
The draft is due to be submitted to the Mislata-based Armenian association Ararat, the Spanish foreign minister, the political groups represented in the Congress of Deputies (lower chamber of Spain’s parliament), the Armenian Embassy to Spain and the NGOs based in Burjassot.
