British Museum’s room 54, previously titled Ancient Turkey, was renamed into Anatolia and Urartu, the author of the initiative Zepyur Batikian said in her Facebook post.
“I’m proud of my achievement. Of course, I’d like for the room to be renamed into Armenia or Armenian Upland; still, this is the first step towards restoration of justice,” she noted.
She thanked the late ex-envoy to UK Karine Kazinian as well as the Minister of Culture, Armenian and British historians, and all those who helped collect 12000 signatures urging to rename the room.
In January 2013, the Forum of Armenian Associations of Europe (FAAE) issued a letter to the British Museum, protesting against the use of Ancient Turkey name for the museum’s room 54 and suggesting renaming the room into Urartu, Ancient Armenia.
