Turkish riot police have stormed a hospital in a Kurdish town in southeastern province of Hakkari hours after deadly clashes with Kurdish protesters.
Police apparently went to the hospital in Yuksekova, also known as Gever, to take away the bodies of two protesters they had killed hours earlier.
The two were killed on Friday during an anti-government demonstration that turned violent in Yuksekova.
The Kurds were protesting over reports that cemeteries belonging to the banned Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) had been destroyed by state institutions.
The local governor’s office has denied the claims.
The southeastern region had been clam during the past months after the PKK declared a truce in March following secret negotiations with the country’s spy agency.
The PKK has been fighting for an autonomous Kurdish region in southeastern Turkey since the 1980s. The conflict has left tens of thousands of people dead.
