Rice with raisins, fish and wine are customary dishes at Christmas in Armenia, ethnographer Armenuhi Stepanyan told Tert.am.
Beside the customary dishes, meat foods are on the table.
“Gorgeous meals used to be served on January 6 because in old times Armenian Christians used to fast before Christmas,” she said.
According to tradition, on January 6 young boys were walking along the streets, singing folk songs of Christmas. People used to visit their relatives and friends.
“In Soviet times, when religion was banned, all the holidays took place at the end of the year,” the ethnographer said.
