The homage of the French Cinémathèque Jacques Kébadian

September 28, 2014 By administrator

Friday night, the French Cinémathèque has made a tribute to filmmaker Jacques Kébadian where three arton103696-480x320short films and a feature film were presented to a packed house.

Armenia 1900: Through an imaginary child figure, portrait of Armenia before the genocide of 1915 from an iconography of old postcards from the collection of the CRDA (1981).

- Blotter: Where the world Aida. As always serious and sweet little characters, arrested in a dreamy stillness, caught in a kind of eternity haunted by the most ordinary everyday. “(Michel Nurisdany) – 1979.

- Five sisters: Like a modern Scheherazade, the director’s mother painting galore, to overcome boredom, captivated with its colors and narrate its history of tenderness and humor. “(1984).

- Twenty years later (video): From 1983 to 2003, Armenia to the United States, between war and earthquake, Jacques Kebadian realizes the path of the family Hovanessian (with Serge Avedikian) who leaves the country to another Hope (2003).

Between each plot to his poetic gaze Kébadian Jacques, whose family hails from Yozgat, reported some of the details of this unusual course and shooting conditions.

Biography Nicole Brenez

“If it were true that it is to feed a stranger rencontrât throughout Nature and had the character of a general law – although the puzzles are solved. “Goethe (1827), cited by Peter Kropotkin in Mutual Aid, a Factor of Evolution (1902).

This is one of the most beautiful and rewarding filmmaker biographies: a tract three mimeographed sheets, dated November 15, 1970 “The Committee of the Red Aid Film violently protests against the arbitrary manner in which the police presented to the press the arrest of Jacques Kebadian, the filmmaker who was the assistant to Robert Bresson, who collaborated with JL Godard, and has played a large part in the creation of the States General Cinema in May 68 It is from this date, revolutionary filmmaker, he decided to bind more specifically to the struggle of the working class. It integrates with the fight, it does so as factory worker Valentine activist against the inhuman working conditions reserved for workers of this factory fumes poisoning soda, accidents at work ‘policies employers threatening diseases. All this for 3,40f time for immigrant workers, and between 4f and 4,70f for French workers. Intellectual revolutionary activist, he considered that the political action in a factory would be the logical extension – a popular logic and not bourgeois – its cinematic combat. He was driven from the factory with other activists who were distributing leaflets, it is, since September 25, jailed for Health under the common criminals. “In October, Jacques Kebadian was sentenced to two months’ suspended imprisonment. Twenty years later, in March 2000, he was convicted of “ranting” against the police. Cinephiles who met very elegant and soft Jacques Kebadian can not fail to smile. Any spectator of Remorse (1973), René Vautier malicious parable about the cowardice of the French filmmakers facing the Algeria war and racism, appreciate the circumstances of the arrest “when officers of the security forces are attacking under his eyes to an individual of African origin, Kebadian inevitably puts his two cents. ‘A policeman said,’ Move! ‘ ‘But I have every right to attend the scene!’. Black rue Montorgueil is ultimately not the thief in search pulls. ‘To avoid going home empty handed,’ says the filmmaker, the police verbalize. “(Renaud Lecadre, Le Monde, 18 March 2000). Young people in Albertine (1972), the one Bush undocumented migrants to another (1997) Zapatista Indians Fragile Armada (2003), the working class, the lumpen proletariat, exiles, Jacques Kebadian to post alongside of all the oppressed, desperate and uneven or wrestling. Never resign, especially not to the disappearance: a long series of films devoted to Armenia before and after the 1915 genocide punctuates a path that is primarily characterized by its many loyalties. Loyalty to the Armenian origins, long-term collaborations with other artists (Jean-Robert Ipoustéguy, Guyotat Pierre François Marie Anthonioz, Patrick Bilge …), consistently work with other filmmakers (franssou Taking Serge Avedikian, Joani Hocquenghem …), attendance to build a gallery of portraits of exemplary women (Germaine Tillion, Genevieve de Gaulle, Shushan Kebadian and sisters, dancers Apsaras Cambodia …). Where wars, massacres and economic violence have torn the films of Jacques Kebadian creating and re the bonds of brotherhood, love and artistic creation (dance, architecture, literature, painting). Rebuild, preserve, listen to survivors through time through folk traditions, observe how crystallizes life through scholarly works or spontaneous, transmit rumor and ideals of the people in action: the work of Jacques Kebadian affiliated film at this resistant function, supportive and helpful which, according to Goethe and Kropotkin, characterized – too – the human race. ”
