The municipal authorities of Fuyuan, a county-level Chinese city situated close to the Russian border, denies entry permits to Russian citizens born in Azerbaijan, Minval.az reports, citing the Russian media.
The
measure reportedly applies also to the Russian nationals whose identity
documents reveal evidence of birth in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Dagestan
and Tatarstan.
Russian tourist agencies have confirmed the report on the imposed ban.
Russia’s Foreign Ministry has sent a protest note to the General Consulate of China.
The decision is thought to be linked to the Chinese authorities’ tightened fight against crimes of terrorism.
