The desire of Russia and Armenia to form a common air defense system in the Caucasus and gradual introduction of the system incited Turkey to egg Azerbaijan on to launch hostilities against Nagorno-Karabakh, Styopa Safaryan, founder of the Armenian Institute of International and Security Affairs (AIISA), told Tert.am.
Turkey believes the system is aimed at it. Therefore, it had to launch hostilities to prevent such a system from being formed.
“Since the agreement was officially announced on October 27, 2015, Turkish diplomats voiced their deep concern. That was followed by a number of most dangerous statements by the Turkish president, premier and foreign minister that egged Azerbaijan on to attach Nagorno-Karabakh,” Mr Safaryan said.
