YEREVAN, ARPEIL 13, ARMENPRESS. The international meeting on the level of the ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites) National Commissions’ Chairmen will be held in Warszawa on April 15. At the course of the meeting the participants will discuss the issue of serial registration of the Socialist Realism architecture of the Central and Eastern Europe countries in the UNESCO World Heritage list. Armenia, Germany, Poland, Croatia, Slovenia, Romania, Bulgaria, Latvia, and Ukraine will participate in the meeting.
In a conversation with “Armenpress” the Chairman of ICOMOS/Armenia, Director of Historic-Archeological Reserve Erebuni Gagik Gyurjyan stated that the initiative came from the “20th Century Heritage” International Scientific Commission of ICOMOS. At the course of the meeting each country will introduce its own samples for registration. Among other things Gagik Gyurjyan noted that there are four suggestions Armenia will put forward. Among them are “Mother Armenia” Memorial Complex opened in 1968, “David of Sasun” railway station opened in 1956, “Sardarapat” memorial complex opened in 1968, and “Sevan-Hrazdan” Hydro Electric Stations Complex built in 1930-62. Notwithstanding the last one is one of the fine examples of industrial heritage, but the principles of socialist realism are precisely reflected here.
