As an obstetrician-gynecologist that has been serving Pennsylvania women for over 15 years and as a proud Armenian-American, I felt compelled to write this letter urging Pennsylvania voters to not vote for Dr. Mehmet Oz. Why? To put it bluntly, Dr. Oz is amoral.
I find it reprehensible that he used his position as a trusted physician to sell false hope to his viewers. In many cases, he talked about products and magic elixirs without disclosing his financial conflicts of interest. Do we want a Senator who lied to vulnerable patients on national TV and can be bought by special interests?
Dr. Oz believes that medical care should be legislated by the government — that Pennsylvania women are incapable of making medical decisions regarding their own reproductive choices. Do we want a Senator who believes that he knows better than women when it comes to their own healthcare?
Lastly, Dr. Mehmet Oz has refused to condemn, let alone acknowledge, the Armenian Genocide. The genocide at the hands of the Ottoman Empire is recognized by historians all over the world, but not Oz. Instead, he has palled around with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan – a man who has called U.S. recognition of the Armenian Genocide slander and who has a terrible human rights record. Do we want a Senator who does not recognize the Armenian Genocide?
All around Dr. Oz is bad for the Commonwealth and I urge you to
