YEREVAN. – Turkey’s authorities had permitted to conduct the Yerevan-Van flights from the very beginning, but they changed their decision at the last moment, just as in the case of the Armenian-Turkish protocols, turkologist Ruben Melkonyan said during a press conference on Monday.
“All this comes to prove that the Turkish authorities are attempting to politicize even a non-political matter such as the Yerevan-Van flight. And, in the politicization process, their main tool is lies and fraud,” the turkologist noted, and stressed that the triviality and the non-principled nature of Turkish policy are apparent in the context of the aforesaid flight.
In Melkonyan’s words, Turkey explained the reason for canceling these flights—without even having started—by claiming that this initiative was made by the Turkish side, but these flights were inexpedient for it from the business perspective.
“This is a ridiculous explanation. In addition, it is apparent that the flight was frozen by Turkey’s MFA, not the civil aviation [department],” the analyst stressed.
He added that two factors are at play here: Azerbaijan’s stormy reaction, and the Turkish society’s negative attitude.
“Such disposition, however, arose as a result of the steps taken by the Turkish authorities. All this can be considered as another typical manifestation of Turkey’s policy: Promising, signing, guaranteeing but, ultimately, rejecting,” Ruben Melkonyan concluded.
