The Turkish parliament has passed a bill allowing the Telecommunication Directorate (TIB) to block any website without permission from a court, Lenta.ru reports.
Any website with offensive content will be detected by certain words.
Moreover, the new law obliges Internet providers to collect all data on the activities of their users on social networks for at least 2 years. The data will be given to third parties upon request. Officially, the law was adopted to protect people from websites with information about paedophiles, drugs and suicide.
The first law restricting Internet users in Turkey was passed in 2007. The law blacklisted WordPress, DailyMotion, Vimeo and YouTube. A single registry of banned websites has been operating in Turkey since 2011. The registry was initially formed to fight terrorism. It has been expanded since then.
