On June 10, at the end of the meeting chaired by Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, a statement was adopted in which the Armenian bishops expressed concern over a number of condemnable events during the campaign.
“From the very first day of the election campaign, hate speech, defamatory and insulting expressions, swearing, revenge and violence, unfortunately, can put our society in a situation where intolerance, hatred and enmity must become inevitable. . All the steps that divide and polarize our society, which has not yet healed the pains of war, have no justification and are condemnable.
The future of the homeland is on the table. It is necessary to show patriotism, zeal and consistency in the formation of a common vision of our people around the homeland, so that everyone considers it an honor to bow under the yoke of the realization of that vision. That is the minimum price we can pay for the self-sacrifice of our martyred children of all times. This consciousness must prevail in our country and pave the way for overcoming the existing problems.
Such manifestations, which degrade our national image and credit, are inappropriate for our people, who have created a rich culture and high values for centuries. “Do not be sowers of evil and do not become tempted by our unacceptable behavior for our Christian people,” the statement reads.
