As the summer holiday season continues, plans for launching a rest center in the Dilijan National Park are being actively discussed.
A statement on the Nature Protection Ministry’s website says the plan, submitted to the state non-profit organization Environmental Expertise, focuses only on the environmental aspect of the project, without giving further details as to construction procedures.
Speaking to Tert.am, the environmentalist Levon Galstyan elaborated on the conditions making the construction of a holiday house permissible.
“The national park has zones where the organization of rest, as well as certain economic activities is permitted. It also has zones where they are not permitted at all or where permitted activities posing no environmental hazards are very restricted in number,” he said.
Galstyan said it is important for them to consider the venues of the given holiday zone and the correspondence of the project’s environmental and other components to the legislation.
Inga Zarafyan, who heads the environmental NGO Ecolur, said she cannot express any opinion now as the Ministry provides only the statement on its official website, without elaborating on further details.
“Perhaps they are thinking of a holiday house in the open air, without any construction. But surprisingly enough, the project proposed by the Ministry is not available on their website,” she explained.
Speaking further, Galstyan said it is now necessary to submit the bill and appoint a date for public hearings.
“There are specific timeframes for public hearings to allow time for getting familiarized with the draft. So we are waiting for the timeframes to be able to express an opinion,” he added.
