Armenia won the 12th place among the 56 countries that participated in the 7th Francophonie Games (VIIèmes Jeux de la Francophonie) held in Nice, France, September 6-15, 2013, French Ambassador to Armenia Henri Reynaud, Armenia’s Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Yuri Vardanyan and Deputy Minister of Culture Arev Samuelyan told journalists on Thursday.
“This is a rather serious result. This time we have seriously prepared for the Games. Our delegation was among the four best organized delegations,” Samuelyan said.
Armenian athletes represented the country in five sports. Minister Vardanyan expressed wish that Armenia be represented by more athletes.
“Armenian athletes represented the country is five sports and won two gold medals and two bronze medals. Participation in the Games as such is a great achievement,” he said.
Armenian athletes competed in wrestling, tennis, cycle racing, judo and track and field athletics.
For his part, Ambassador Henri Reynaud pointed out the importance of such events. He noted that the Francophonie Games have cultural and sports components.
“We want Armenian delegations to properly represent the country at the Games,” he said.
