YEREVAN. – Swearing-in ceremony of the 21st group of Peace Corps volunteers was held in Yerevan on Wednesday. Thirty American volunteers will start their work in Armenia (photo).
Peace Corps Country Director David Lillie welcomed the new volunteers, noting that their mission is to serve principles and goals of the Peace Corps. He said they would be working in the Armenian communities and share their knowledge and experience as unofficial U.S. ambassadors to Armenia.
U.S. Ambassador to Armenia John Heffern said he was happy for the first time to participate in the swearing-in ceremony of U.S. Peace Corps volunteers in Armenia. He assured that the U.S. Embassy will work with an extended family of the Peace Corps over the next two years, and this work is to deepen the understanding between the Armenian and American nations.
