Presented Friday and Saturday at Shiloh, the show “A century after” offers a symphony of colors and melodies through the talent of the whole “Arax-Sasun”
The bet was bold, it was successful. Gather a hundred artists on stage, that is the goal that set themselves the designer trio “Arax-Sasun”. Pascal Chamassian, artistic director of the ensemble, Marion Chamassian, dance teacher and choreographer and Mickaël Vemian, music teacher and head of Sasun orchestra brought together 35 musicians, 40 dancers and 25 singers.
For an hour and forty-five, “A century after” took place in 24 tables organized in three acts with themes Roots, Lights and Horizons. This show does not tell the story of the Armenian Genocide organized by Turkey in 1915. It reveals a series of “artistic proof of life” to explore dance and traditional Armenian music. There is no message, no hate, only the spectacle, beauty and talent. Spectators are invited to a journey through time and thus find compositions of Aram Katchadourian, including the famous Sabre Dance. Tribute paid to Vanouch Khanamirian. Detour in South America with Astor Piazzola and stop in Cuba. Léo Ferré was invited. “Over time” is an evocation of time passing and the risk of amnesia. The soprano Naira Abrahamyan did enjoy her beautiful voice.
Mileysis Pinto took over Ferré and gypsy singing.
The room also enjoyed the quality and the high level of the dancers and the orchestra. Mickaël Vemian is a complete musician and a brilliant conductor. Levon is a master at Khozian duduk. Percussion led the audience who beat rhythm and singers have good soloists accompanied singers.
“A century after” represents three rehearsals per week for two years. It is a hymn to life and a message of hope that history does not repeat itself. The emotion and joy await you in this festive moment and mingle at the mercy of dances and music.
Over 3000 Marseille, Friday and Saturday could appreciate the talent of all Arax-Sasun which all Armenians can be proud. The troupe will also perform soon in other cities of France.
