Although Armenia adopted Christianity in 301, it still continues to celebrate the pagan holiday Vardavar, German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung writes in an article dedicated to the holiday of Vardavar, marked in Armenia last Sunday.
“This Sunday hardly anyone in Armenia’s capital Yerevan could go out and stay dry. Yerevan residents took to the streets in search of “yet another victim.” Of course, no one complained when poured with cold water, and everyone was comfortable with this even when water was poured through the car window. The water festival, which the Armenians call Vardavar, dates back to pre-Christian times,” the newspaper writes.
