Hatice Yaşar, a Kurdish politician who was forced to leave Turkey following the 1980 military coup, was arrested yesterday on her arrival at Ankara’s Esenboğa Airport and taken to Sincan Prison. Yaşar had moved to Sulaymani where she taught at the university and was also an advisor to PKK leader and Iraq president Jalal Talabani.
“She returned to Turkey after 33 years, at a time that many factions of the society are discussing … They should have apologized to her, instead they didn’t allow her to spend time with her family,” Ayşe Bakkalcı and Metin Bakkalcı, Yaşar’s relatives, told bianet
