Armenia has has improved its positions on the 2017 World Democracy Index, upgrading its status from an authoritarian country to a state governed by a hybrid regime.
In the annual ranking, published by The Economist Intelligence Unit, the country is in the 111th place.
A total of 167 states scored on a scale of 0 to 10 based on 60 indicators. The basic criteria of evaluation included electoral processes and plurality of opinion, civic liberties, government activity, opportunities of politicial participation, and political culture.
Armenia scored 4.11 instead of the 3.88 in 2016. The constitutional reforms, shifting power from presidency to parliament, accounted for the progress compared to last year.
Azerbaijan, which ranks the 148th, is on the list of authoritarian countries. Georgia and Turkey are among the hybrid regimes, with total scores of 4.88 and 5.93.
Iran and Russia were rated as authoritarian states, ranking respectively the 150th and the135th.
