YEREVAN. – The Armenian community of Boston has raised $1.3 million for Syrian Armenians to set up a new life in Karabakh, program coordinator said.
The funds will be transferred through “Ari” foundation, and will be allocated to buy cattle and invite tenders for construction of cottages, coordinator Suren Grigoryan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.
“The only problem we cannot solve without support is providing them with land. The new communities should have at least one hectare. We want to hold negotiations with the government of Nagorno-Karabakh,” he said.
Thirty families from Armenian-populated villages in northern Syria have been resettled in Kovsakan Region. “Ari” foundation has provided up to AMD 1.5 million interest-free loans for a year. It was much easier to repay loans after the crop was harvested.
“Unfortunately, we cannot provide new settlers with land, and, therefore, look forward to support from the NKR authorities,” he added.
