Armenian grandmaster Levon Aronian beat the reigning world chess champion Magnus Carlsen in the 3rd round of European Team Chess Championship helping his team to a 2.5 – 1.5 victory over Norway.
At the Reykjavik-hosted championship, the Armenian team – Aronian, Gabriel Sargissian, Sergei Movsesian and Hrant Melkumyan – gained a 4-0 victory over Iceland, further losing 1.5-2.5 to France in the first two rounds, Armenia’s Chess Federation reports.
Meanwhile, Melkumyan beat Frode Urkedal, Sargissian drew with Ludvig Hammer, while Melkumian lost to Aryan Tari during the Round 3 game.
