STEPANAKERT—The Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Defense Ministry announced that an Artsakh soldier, Vardan Vardanyan, born in 1994, was killed at 8:50 a.m. on Friday, after Azerbaijani forces violated the cease fire.
An investigation has been launched by the Defense Ministry, which also announced that Azerbaijani forces fired more than 1,100 shots from varying caliber weapons, including 60 and 82 milimeter mortars, HAN-17 grenades and ZU-23 antiaircraft system.
The Defense Ministry also announced that Artsakh forces retaliated.
This latest incident comes two days after Azerbaijani forces deployed a tank for the first time since the cease fire agreement was signed in 1994. During that attack, another Karabakh soldier, 24-year-old Garik Avanesian was killed.
