A New Course at UCLA Spring 2018 Visiting Professor: Dr. Marco G. Brambilla,
The course offers a survey of the main developments in the political, economic, and cultural history of the Salmast region, first within the context of Greater Armenia and then under Iranian administration up to the present, focusing on the diverse activities of the Armenian community there and their wider significance in Armeno-Iranian interrelations.
Dr. Marco Brambilla is a practicing architect and an architectural historian specializing in Islamic and Armenian architecture. He has lectured extensively in major schools of architecture worldwide. Since 2016, in cooperation with UCLA and SHA, he has been active in a major research program about the Salmast Region. This year he organized and directed an expedition to the Salmast region to gather data for a major monograph on the areas of architectural and cultural history.
