Afrin becoming Turkish soldier death valley, 41 Turkish troops killed during operation in north Syria: Minister

March 3, 2018 By administrator

Ankara says 41 of its soldiers have been killed in Syria’s northwestern region of Afrin, where the Turkish military has been engaged in a ground operation against US-backed Kurdish militants for more than a month.

Turkish Defense Minister Nurettin Canikli made the announcement in a speech delivered at Istanbul National Defense University on Friday, adding that 95 villages or hamlets had come under their control during the so-called Operation Olive Branch.

Canikli further said that 116 members of the so-called Free Syrian Army (FSA) militant group, which has joined Turkish troops in their campaign against members of the Kurdish People’s Defense Units (YPG).

Turkey’s state-run Anatolia news agency quoted Canikli as saying that 2,295 militants of Kurdish factions and Daesh terrorists had been “neutralized” in the offensive, which was launched on January 19.

The Turkish government has said the recent United Nations Security Council resolution on a month-long ceasefire in Syria will have no effect on its cross-border operations.

Ankara views the YPG as a terror organization and the Syrian branch of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

Ties between Ankara and Washington has further soured over the latter’s support for the Kurdish militants operating at Turkish doorstep.

Turkey launched Operation Olive Branch, its second military intervention in Syia since 2011, after Washington said it would set up a border force comprising 30,000 Kurdish militants near Turkish soil.

Turkey has warned that the Afrin offensive could expand to the nearby Syrian city of Manbij.

Syria has slammed both Turkish and US military activities on its soil as a violation of the Arab nation’s sovereignty.

Turkey 500 soldiers died suspiciously in four years

January 11, 2018 By administrator

Suspicious Deaths and Victims Association Chairperson Oktay Can said that 500 soldiers have lost their lives under suspicious circumstances in the last four years.

The Suspicious Deaths and Victims Association had recently announced that 2.500 soldiers have lost their lives in the last 22 years. The provinces with State of Emergency practices are in the lead in suspicious soldier deaths.

The organization’s chairperson Oktay Can said they founded the Suspicious Deaths and Victims Association in 2013 and that 500 families have appealed to them to date claiming their children had died under suspicious circumstances and added that the suspicious soldier deaths have increased with the reimplementation of the State of Emergency.

“NOBODY ELSE KNOWS THE PAIN OF LOSING A CHILD”

Can said he personally lost his son in 2009 in the Hozat Sarıkaş Outpost in Dersim and stated that he experienced the deep pain of losing a child and they founded the association so other families never do and suspicious deaths are prevented. Can pointed out that lawsuits about soldiers who lost their lives under suspicious circumstances have never been concluded to date and have been stuck on the statute of limitations: “My son lost his life when his commander shot 2 bullets to his head. There were bruises on my son’s neck due to battery. I received the autopsy report, it stated how he died, but when we wanted to investigate the matter we were told the military prosecutor’s office would issue a statement. There are many soldier deaths by the hands of commanders like my son’s. To date, some 2.300 families have been subjected to such approaches. The cases weren’t resolved through lawsuits. I am following up on my own son’s file. Most recently I took my son’s case to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). And as an association we are working for other families’ children as well.”

“IF COMMANDERS DON’T SHOOT SOLDIERS, WHAT HAPPENED ON JULY 15?”

Can said they took the deaths to the Grand Parliamentary Assembly of Turkey, but couldn’t convince anybody there that the deaths were in fact suspicious: “Nobody we talked to in the Parliament believed us. I spoke to the President about this as well, but he told me commanders don’t shoot soldiers. We saw in the July 15 coup attempt that soldiers can in fact turn their guns towards the people, to their own, and they attacked people with tanks. In any case, we have so much evidence, but we can’t explain ourselves to the prosecutors. Because military prosecutors receive orders in doing their duty, and thus our initiatives fall short. The prosecutors decide against investigating ‘suspicious deaths’. So we speak to others about our issues. People who appeal to us say their sons were killed by their commanders.”

“IT’S USUALLY KURDISH AND ALEVI SOLDIERS WHO DIE”

Can said the suspicious soldier deaths occur most frequently in Kurdish provinces and contiued: “Many people suffer torture during their military service, and many are killed arbitrarily. There is a lot of evidence to document this, but as the military courts are not completely just, our cases don’t produce results. Most of the deaths occur in Eastern and Southeastern parts. And most soldiers who die there turn out to be Kurdish or Alevi.”

“500 SOLDIERS KILLED UNDER SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES IN 4 YEARS”

Can stated that they have received appeals from many provinces since the association was founded and added: “To date, some 500 families have appealed to us. Their children also received violent abuse from their commanders. 80% of the families are Kurdish. They are pressured and intimidated by the commanders to not file charges. There are many families we can’t reach because of this intimidation. We demanded that a parliamentary commission be formed to investigate the matter and hear the families. Among our demands is that our children are insured by the state, that our children are not killed by their commanders. There are some soldiers who were married, and because the state doesn’t offer any form of aid after they are killed, there are children of these soldiers who have to pick bread out of the trash to eat.”

“NO MANDATORY MILITARY SERVICE”

Can spoke of the necessity to remove mandatory military service and said: “When we look at the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF), soldiers suffer either food poisoning, or they are tortured, or they are killed. That is why we demand an end to mandatory military service. Even if they don’t fully remove the mandatory military service, they should introduce a civil service in any state institution as the duty to the country.” Can concluded his words with a demand to try and punish the killers of soldiers.

The Turkish military has announced the death of two of its soldiers in an attack by the  Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the country’s troubled southeastern region.

A statement by the military said the soldiers were killed during ongoing security operations in the mountainous Semdinli district of Hakkari province near the Iraqi border on Monday, adding that another soldier was also wounded.

France: Car slams into soldiers in Paris suburb of Levallois-Perret, six injured

August 9, 2017 By administrator

French police were hunting for a driver who slammed his car into a group of soldiers in a Paris suburb, injuring six. The authorities launched a terror probe into the “attempted killings.”

The vehicle, a dark BMW car, hit the soldiers at Place de Verdun in Levallois-Perret at the northwestern edge of Paris on Wednesday at about 8:00 a.m. local time (0600 UTC). Police say the driver is on the run.

The mayor of Levallois-Perret, Patrick Balkany, told French television network BFMTV that the act was “odious” and “without a doubt deliberate.” He also said that the car appeared to have waited in a nearby alleyway until the soldiers emerged from their barracks to start their patrol.

“The vehicle did not stop. It hurtled at them … it accelerated rapidly,” he told broadcaster BFM TV.

The attacker apparently targeted members of the Sentinelle security force, which was created after Islamist attacks in 2015. Six soldiers were injured in the hit-and-run, three of them seriously. French defense ministry said that their lives were not in danger.

The prosecutors launched a probe into “attempted killings… in relation to a terrorist undertaking.”

The incident comes four days after a teenager with psychiatric problems tried to attack security forces guarding the Eiffel Tower, shouting “Allahu Akbar” (God is greatest). Several other extremists also attacked security forces in Paris earlier this year.

Turkey: 731 soldiers hospitalized after food poisoning in western Turkey

June 18, 2017 By administrator

turkey soldiers food poisoningMore than 700 soldiers have fallen sick in a mass outbreak of food poisoning at a military barracks in the western Turkish province of Manisa.

Manisa Chief Prosecutor Akif Celahattain Simsek announced in a statement on Sunday that none of the soldiers are displaying life-threatening conditions after 731 troopers at the Manisa First Infantry Training Brigade Command complained about nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

They were rushed to hospital with stomach pains and dizziness.

The soldiers at the barracks had eaten a meal of soup, rice, chicken and yogurt for Iftar, a meal with which Muslims break their dawn-to-dusk fasting during the holy month of Ramadan.

Police have detained 21 employees, including executives, of the catering company that provides food to the military compound in connection with the incident.

This is the second time in less than a month that soldiers at the Manisa First Infantry Training Brigade Command have been struck by food poisoning.

One soldier died in the May food poisoning incident, which was caused by salmonella bacteria.

Local opposition lawmaker Tur Yildiz Bicer posted pictures on Twitter of soldiers slumped on benches in the hospital, and others on a drip.

Turkish Defense Minister Fikri Isik visited the sick soldiers in hospital overnight, saying they were all set to make a full recovery.

“We don’t see a significant problem; just some of our soldiers are being kept in for observation. No one is in intensive care or has their life in danger,” he pointed out.

Azerbaijan has no respect even for its soldiers’ bodies – Senor Hasratyan

February 26, 2017 By administrator

Senor Hasratyan, Spokesman for the Defense Army of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), commented on Azerbaijan-disseminated misinformation in a Facebook message.
According to the Azerbaijani reports, on February 25, the Azerbaijani forces downed an Armenian drone and destroyed an Armenian weapon emplacement and, by the end of the day, allegedly shelled the frontline and adjacent territories.

The message reads:

“After suffering losses last night near Akna and Martuni, given the fact that fives bodies are in the neutral territory, the Azerbaijani side was supposed to draw conclusions and refrain from escalating the situation.

“Or rather, by tradition, Azerbaijan not only continues misinforming its public by claiming that, on February 25, the Azerbaijani forces downed an Armenian drone and destroyed an Armenian weapon emplacement and, by the end of the day, allegedly shelled the frontline and adjacent territories, using weapons and artillery, and fired over 100 shots at the frontline of the Nagorno-Karabakh and adjacent territories.

“After that, it is logical that we are dealing with an enemy that is not only cut off reality, but also one that has no respect for the bodies of his own soldiers.”
