Catholic Armenians celebrate landmark mass in Turkey’s Izmir

August 16, 2017 By administrator

Turkey‘s Catholic Armenian community held a religious service on Monday, August 14 in the western city of Izmir’s St. John Cathedral Basilica, Daily Sabah reports.

The Mass bears importance for the community as it is the first time they were able to pray in the historic church in 95 years.

The 19th-century basilica, heavily damaged in the Great Izmir Fire in 1922, was handed over to the use of NATO troops based in the city in the 1960s and was left unused for decades before its restoration in 2013.

Rev. Vartan Kazanciyan from an Istanbul Armenian church presided over the religious service attended by some 150 people.

The basilica was among the properties returned to ethnic and religious minorities after decades of discriminatory state policies toward those minorities

Armenian church in Turkey’s Izmir turned into stable

January 21, 2015 By administrator

187394The Armenian church of Turkish city Izmir is now used as a stable. Moreover, the local residents, who bring their horses and cows here, complained about the drug addicts and drunkards who have turned the construction into a den.

Turkish newspaper Milliyet reports that the Armenian Gregorian church is located in the Menemen district of Izmir. It is supposed to be a 19th century building, although no record of that has been preserved. The church is now in a miserable state and is filled with manure and other contamination.

The locals complain that the area has become a place for dangerous drug addicts and drunkards. It is under supervision of the police, the children cannot play there quietly, as strangers walk around the church.

One of the inhabitants of the district, Nurten Yelmaz, said that this is an Armenian historical church. “Unfortunately, Turkey does not give much significance to historical buildings. One should stand up for spiritual values, regardless of one’s religion. There are very few building like this remained. This historical building has become a stable now. We must stand up for these places”.

The building served as a church until 1922. When the Turkish army entered Izmir, burned it and massacred the Greek and Armenian population, the church was abandoned. Until recently it was used as a military warehouse, but now it is empty. Three years ago with Menemen municipality initiative the local Greek Church Agios Konstantinos was renovated which is also a 19th century structure. At that time they promised that the Armenian Church will be repaired too, but no work has been done until now.

IZMIR 9 SEPTEMBER 1922, THE HISTORY OF ONE is TİPÇİLİG

September 8, 2014 By administrator

By ZEYNEP TOZDUMAN     see also Turkish Version

Izmir; 1922 before the Turks, Greeks, Armenians, Jews and Europeans (Dutch, Italians, French and British ZEYNEP TOZDUMANconsisting of 17.ve. in the 18th century for trade to settle in Izmir Levantine called the cuts are) formed multi-lingual, multi-cultural, multi-civilization of a city was the name .

Izmir on 9 September 1922 M.Kemal entering the regular army in the first place, the Armenians and the Greeks plundered shops, armed robberies have been making. September 9th, 1922 in Izmir to tell extinguished the fire on September 13 beginning on September 18 would not be able to tell. Izmir by the Turks in 1922 passed into the hands since, historians still unclear documents without relying with comments made in the descriptions we saw it in Izmir, first the Greeks, then the Armenians oil thesis that the official ideology by the still continuing.

Izmir, the Turkish army entered on September 9, described as heroic epic ‘Greek’ve poured into the sea’ in literature and in history books for years, the ceremony told us ad nauseam. Three generations as a Izmir; Inhabit knows best! With starter or almost Izmir, Izmir have been cranking up the country of our childhood it was immaculate and innocent. ‘Flowers bloom in the mountains of Izmir,’ he would begin to march … Come and see, in the mountains of the Izmir colorful flowers that can not be hungry anymore. Have turned blood red flowers bloomed flowers provided another 92 years.

In 1915, nearly 2 million people on the eastern front; Armenians, Assyrians and Pontic Greeks, which ended the existence of the Union-i Terakkici that the Young Turks were heading west from the next new management. September 9, 1922, Greeks and Armenians on the Western front end to the presence of a more dönmeyesi is the date. On 9 September 1922 about 200 thousand Greeks, Turks and Armenians were killed our compatriots.

The so-called war of liberation only with the Greek army was the battle on the western front. Izmir, to recover from the Greek occupation off from the Dardanelles, Istanbul Turkish armies from kocahisar, Izmir press reports on approaching rich Armenians and Greeks who lived here were almost deserted city.

On September 9, the Greek army into the sea, was burned on September 13 m from the sea come to Izmir? Or swing of the sword of Islam throughout history wherever Armenians who had been murdered; homeland of the way, can also fall into trouble with his own hands has been burning their monasteries began to remove Izmir fire? Izmir on fire in different views of the historians Let’s leave aside the reviews. Want Izmir Turkey, whether Armenians, Greeks, if you want to get burned. Lighted the fact that multiculturalism in Izmir, is very dillicili. This day, which has become a bastion of Kemalism in Izmir, ancient languages other than Turkish is still ignored. Is the fate of Izmir, grief Is it known? Except for extraordinary disasters such as earthquakes throughout history, has always been the scene of destruction.

Seljuk Turks in 1084 in the historical process, the Persians in the 1130 Smryna (Izmir) ‘t have destroyed. Tamerlane monasteries and churches not only in Mardin, was demolished in 1402 in Izmir. Tamerlane, Izmir kıyıcılıkl of people it’s a great slaughter, and structures destroyed in Iraq and Syria to hear that they are doing these days is not so. Smyrna (Izmir), passed into the hands of the Ottomans in 1424. On that day the name of Smyrna, Izmir has turned behalf. In short, Smyrna, Izmir is oil.

Before 1922, a Greek city, Izmir, these days are even traces of Greek architecture. These days the so-called modern Izmir, only 30 Greek families are living. Levantine before 1922 in Izmir, consists of Greeks and Turks insisted that the message that the current system these days is in conflict with their thesis. Armenians of Izmir, one of the former owners do not always counted by the official ideology in the historical process assets in Izmir has always been manipulated. Telling of the sufferings of the Greeks in Izmir, to see the sufferings of the Armenians would be a great injustice.

Izmir is an important center of Christianity; Armenians and Greeks monasteries, churches, historical monuments, walls and architecture despite the great fire little has survived to the present day. Ignores the existence of Armenians in Izmir How is it that the official ideology of the great fire of Izmir is taking on these ancient peoples, the need to query. Armenians; Like the Greeks Muslim invasion at least 1,500 years ago are a people who settled in Asia Minor. Armenians; Black Sea, Central Anatolia, Cilicia (Adana, Maras, Gaziantep, Malatya), Western Armenia called (Van, Kars, Muş, Diyarbakır, Mardin, Batman) and Istanbul (Konstantapolis) after their geographical regions. In almost every region of Anatolia region called the ancient Armenian people, such as the Greeks and Assyrians went where each has undergone massacres and genocide.

Ottoman 1913, the Greek Relocation and 1,915 Armenians, Syriac Pontic Greeks Relocation route the Muslims, slaughter and plunder in order to provoke any kind of support given to about 2 million people Anatolia region called destruction and traces of a culture completely erased caused.

Sahin September 9, 1922 What is the liberation?

Armenians, Greeks, Jews, Armenians, Levantines will create wealth and civilization in this country is to get rid of me they say is the salvation? The overwhelming majority of the islands brought from the Balkans and Turkey, consisting of monolingual, mono-religious, mono-cultural ideology is a residential center in Izmir. Perhaps this is why Izmir is still on …

Yesterday the Armenian Ruma, Judea, to the Assyrians who survived; If this day is similar sufferings in Izmir and everywhere dominated by Kemalism, Kurdish people is kept alive. In a country where people speak only killed for their mother tongue, Kurdish, if he can not talk about democracy and law. Non-self destroying this country as the country will go into the history of mankind.

As the last word in Izmir, tipçilig one of these days (Kemalism), the most obvious is the name of the city alive.

Turkish Version

‘’İzmir’in dağlarında çiçekler açar ‘’ diye başlardık marşa… Gelin, görün ki İzmir’in dağlarında o rengârenk çiçekler artık açmıyor.

İzmir’i, Yunan işgalinden kurtarmak için Çanakkale’den yola çıkan, Afyon kocahisar’a gelen Türk orduları, İzmir’e yaklaşıyor basın haberleri üzerine burada yaşayan zengin Ermeni ve Rumlar şehri hemen terk etmişlerdi.

İzmir’in kaderi midir, kederi midir bilinmez?

Izmir, Turkey: Sevan Nişanyan: ‘This country is ours, there is no place for you,’ they say (Video)

December 14, 2013 By administrator

Emre Ertan Airport, Izmir, Turkey and the former Greek village of Sirince introduced to the world, but because of the structures built on top of cases prosecuted Nishanian Sevan said.

Sevan Nişanyan, judiciary, bureaucracy and the Ministry of Culture ‘should be made of the’ Declaration of Rock in Şirince’ye despite pressures such as the opening of the tomb had made in February 2012. nisanyan550Nishanyan grave, ‘rootless, baseless, non-persistence’ against building a ‘nice thing as’ built said.

ERT EMRE NEW
is emreertani@agos.com.t

Sevan Nishanian last year, the book describes the life ‘Lion Road’ in the conversation I had on, “Who Sevan Nişanyan? For example, can we say crazy? “He asked, and he gave the following response:

“I love doing crazy number, but I’m not crazy, I’m inordinately rational-minded people. They say I’m brave, but I do not believe in it. Nishanyan, I like to push boundaries, where everyone sees no boundaries I see them as opportunities. Everyone ‘Oh, here we do not go beyond’ the place where I love to go to. Minimum force when you’re discovering new things. Borders across the border to force the monsters need to understand that. Everyone in the dark more than that, the place where I see opportunity, I mean, I do not take a risk, actually. ”

Nishanian Şirince’de this time ‘unauthorized’ built a structure in which ‘breaking the seal’ on the sentence I spoke to. A few days ago stating that reaches the hands of the prosecution’s notice Nishanyan, “In this process, the role of being my Armenian stark. Anyone who has anything unusual in Turkey will be punished. If you want surname ‘Ozturk’, whether it does not matter. Unusual or personality you’ll be punished if you do a job. On top of it, this katmerlen is Armenian, “he says.

  • Here’s what you do in Sirince punish you receive?

In 2008, in one of my little work ‘without breaking the seal because I got two years in prison. My concern then a few more penalties to come. My work Şirince’de sonuçlanıp local court at this stage because of the 19 cases. Of these, 9 of them were illegal construction in the protected area. An arrangement made last October, they eliminate them. So my punishment so that a total of 21 years fell to 7-8 years. A few days ago I learned of summons from the prosecutor’s office I’d go to prison. I should be delivered within 10 days were reported.

  • Well, that’s weird is not it? 70 percent of Istanbul leakage but no penalty is given. But you …

As everyone knows, there is a fact, not a matter of this event fugitive.

  • What’s the matter? He’s a player who did not play a role which is not something other than punishment. Questioning the presuppositions of the system, with certain claims arising beyond this and, moreover, to the Armenian incidents of a man who is intimidated by this. Mechanism of intimidation is not new, from a place that does not have a decision. At the same time moving from point to dozens of takes over. After that, however, give details of the job can fight over.

  • You’re giving ideological war on many fronts …ev-5520

Turkey do not fit into any of the existing political camp. I’m not a man of any camp, not a clan supporting me on my back. This in a way gives me freedom. Many people on the one hand Soveren loves me. I think that despite everything I loved my many.

    • Social media, live event that you bring it up with your spouse get a penalty for that, “Oh say, ‘There are those who …

Some of the “Armenian” embarrassed to say anything because it raises another, languages other pods below. They also have a deep hatred in the unconscious mind can not explain it in other ways and are expressed. Also I live with my wife in the event that no information about who is right in one. Was he right answer to the question was unfair to give this man no one can be. Neither I nor my wife talked about this. Also I’m closest to my ex still, like now I’m handing him Nishanyan hotel.

    • These braces off and now I wonder if we continue, enter the prison to go abroad to get away from Do not you think?

After this age go abroad can not be miserable. I’m also going abroad defeat is a defeat and I do not, I will not accept defeat. Tens of thousands of Armenians from Turkey gave up and went. 90 percent of the people I know in my childhood went abroad. I say go is to admit defeat, the ingenuity to stay here and fight. “This country is ours, there is no place for you,” they say. “What’s the occasion, I’m staying, if you want to you” We need to diyebilme.

    • Been launched campaigns for you to enter the prison.

Campaign anything from the dead. Reprieve would not be in a situation like this final sentence. But then there is the future convictions. Not one of them, 19 cases we’re talking about. ‘m Going to sleep for a certain period of this case, it is not clear exactly how. It does not bother me so much but the back is too poor to know what the future of punishment. 9-10 years amounts if they wish me inside. Or go to a few months in prison does not bother me.

    • Şirince’de demolition of homes that make me like the case?

Currently it does not appear anything. At no stage, did not solve any problems. They were postponed, were sümenalt, was allowed to stand. But you never know what will happen to them.

    • “Religious feelings to things I do not think it would be something from the case. ‘There are over your eye brow’ case as much as you want from the guy in jail where you can insert your religion from a case of getting in trouble incontinence what? “You say.

Not make much sense do not you think? Religion and the Prophet got up and criticized me for one year and three months in jail that, ‘Eye has scratched the top of the saying’ includes launchers, not a problem of the hand, Europeans are not subject to the critique of the Americans.

    • Take your punishment for being Armenian Do you think it is effective?

In this process, the role of being my Armenian stark. Anyone who has anything unusual in Turkey will be punished. If you want surname ‘Ozturk’, whether it does not matter. Unusual or personality you’ll be punished if you do a job. This is katmerlen top of it is Armenian.

    • Are you sorry for that unusual?

I could not be otherwise, a person can not change himself. Making it such a pleasure getting to be, it can not change. In his youth people “now my streak, I’m going to change this streak, it does not, I’m such events,” he says. After a certain age, do you realize how hard you try you are. You’re used to it, accept life easier when you are starting to come to the people. I’m proud of what I did, did their jobs properly. I’d need to do in this village, both Mathematics Village, Theatre Madrasa, scientific studies, dictionaries, I contribute to the public debate in terms of my job I think I made neat and clean. This will benefit people in the country I’m doing the work, get it more than I think I’ve given to the public. This sounds very good to me, what can you do more than that already alive?
