Going from Yerevan to Baku or Russia on such a route is very similar to holding the right ear with the left hand. But if listening in the wrong way does not incur any expense or benefit to others, the same cannot be said of the railroad.

Because there is a much shorter route through Azerbaijan to Russia, and that is the Yerevan-Ijevan-Kazakh railway built in recent Soviet years. It is several hundred kilometers shorter than the southern version. And repairing and re-issuing the line will be much cheaper. So, it is possible to state for sure. Once again, Nikolai’s dream is not pro-Armenian. It fully fits into the interests of the Azerbaijani-Turkish tandem. As for the communication with Iran, it would be right to allocate a part of that money to the lost part, Goris-Kapan, for the construction of a replacement road.

Presumably, the Azerbaijani-Turkish-Nicola southern version will be implemented at the expense of loans. Which will once again burden the state budget. And its efficiency will be low. And if we add to that the problem of product safety, the picture will be complete. After all, it is not the Nikol backpacks that will accompany the Armenian rolling stock. And not at least the police officers who are engaged in ensuring the security of the Prime Minister instead of fulfilling their immediate responsibilities. The second president of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, says that the actions of which he is accused are not clear. “They say not to hinder. Ultimately, show me what powers I could and did not hinder with. Some administrative and economic powers have been attributed to me. I do not know what it is about. The powers of the President are clearly defined by the Constitution. The content of the accusation is incomprehensible to me. Find a way to explain to me what they want from me, what I am accused of,” the former president stated.

The court decided that everything was clear and that Kocharyan’s words could be interpreted as a refusal to answer.

Defense lawyer Hayk Alumyan intervened, repeating the court’s demand to clarify the indictment.

“We do not want anything fantastic,” Robert Kocharyan added, for his part.

The Armenian parliamentary commission tasked with investigating the circumstances of the 2020 war on Monday held its first meeting, boycotted by opposition lawmakers.

Andranik Kocharyan, head of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Defense and Security which coordinates the work of the commission, presented the scope of its functions and the subject of investigation.

The commission of inquiry will carry out its activities for six months, which can be extended for another six months.

In a statement earlier on Friday, the opposition Hayastan (Armenia) and With Honor factions announced their intention to boycott the inquiry into the 44-day war initiated by the ruling Civil Contract faction, arguing that the authorities cannot “objectively examine their own actions.”

According to MP Gegham Manukyan, who also represents the Hayastan bloc, an objective investigation is possible only when it is led by the opposition and not by the ruling political team, which is responsible for the launch of the war.

Manukyan said that they were leaving the meeting, but reserved the right to join the work of the commission if they saw fit.

In addition, the Nikolai regime is taking obvious steps aimed at Turkifying Armenia. Add to this the de facto abolition of the right to run for office through elections, in the sense that if a non-Nicolaean leader is actually elected somewhere, he is immediately arrested or pressured against him and his supporters.

Add to this the abolition of the judiciary, because if any judge dares to act in accordance with the law and even release any politically persecuted figure on bail, that judge will be arrested immediately. Add to that the fact that freedom of speech is almost zero, moreover, the Nicolaitan regime has imposed draconian fines even … for swearing. It sounds ridiculous, but even the freedom to swear at the authorities has been taken away from society, or rather it has been made “paid”. The current regime is practically based solely on the support of the punitive bodies – the “Nikola police” – a few Nikolai oligarchs. It can also be added that the regime of Nikol Pashinyan, who has been raping the interests of Armenia and the Armenians for some time, enjoys the support of the dictators of Ankara and Baku. All this was not made (it has been made for a long time), but directly emphasized the need for a possible uprising or a change of government in the form of a rebellion. In principle, the moment may come when the opposition political forces, which claim not to violate the constitution, will even admit that in such a situation, the imperatives of the existence of the state and the people take precedence over all constitutional norms. The Washington-based International Republican Institute’s public opinion poll, conducted November 22-December 5, 2021, measured the Armenian population’s views on political, economic, and security issues. The survey was funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development.

The poll revealed a key finding: 46% of the population thinks that “Armenia is headed in the wrong direction,” while only 34% thinks that the country is headed in “the right direction.” This indicates that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s often-repeated boast that he enjoys “the people’s mandate” is not necessarily so. This is a significant shift from the 54% of the votes the Prime Minister’s political party received in the June 20, 2021, parliamentary elections. More importantly, the number of those who think that Armenia is headed in the wrong direction increased from 20% in May 21, 2021, to 34% in July 2021, and 46% in December 2021.

However, on another important question, “Do you believe that you or people like you can influence decisions made in our country,” 66% said yes, while 33% said no. This is definitely a positive indication for the authorities.

The next question: “Are you satisfied or dissatisfied with the way democracy is developing in our country?” the country was almost evenly split: 51% yes and 47% no.

To the question: “Do you consider our country to be governed in the interest of the majority of people or in the interest of some groups?” 61% said it was governed in the interest of “some groups,” while only 31% said it was governed in the interest of “the majority.” This reflects negatively on the current government.

On the positive side, 66% of the people surveyed said they are “not afraid of openly expressing their opinions,” while 31% said they were afraid to do so.

When asked “Which two countries were the most important political partners for Armenia?” Russia (57%); France (50%); the U.S. (38%); Iran (23%); European Union (5%); China (5%); Georgia (3%); and India (1%).

The survey then asked if the respondents agreed or disagreed with the following three questions:

1) 73% agreed and 25% disagreed that “Armenia should start a dialog with Turkey and normalize bilateral relations, while pursuing the agenda of recognition of the Armenian Genocide by Turkey.”

2) 70% agreed and 27% disagreed that “Armenia must establish bilateral relations with Turkey by putting forward its own preconditions such as Turkey’s non-hindrance of peace in Artsakh.”

3) 44% agreed and 53% disagreed that “Under no circumstances Armenia should pursue normalization of relations with Turkey.”

Most survey respondents disagreed with Pashinyan that opening roads with Azerbaijan is beneficial to Armenia. When asked: “How will the opening of transport routes with Azerbaijan impact Armenia’s economic development?” 27% gave a positive answer; 59% negative.

The same is true for Turkey. When asked: “How will the opening of transport routes with Turkey impact Armenia’s economic development?” 35% gave a positive answer; 53% negative.

When asked: “How important is the resolution to the Artsakh conflict for the future of Armenia in the next 10 years?” The overwhelming 96 % said “important”; 3% “unimportant.”

The survey asked: “What would be an acceptable solution of the Artsakh conflict?”

— 35% said: “Recognition of Artsakh as an independent state.”

— 34% said: “The unification of Artsakh with Armenia as a region of the Republic of Armenia.”

— 16% said: “Establishment of the status of the Artsakh Autonomous Region within Armenia.”

— 11% said: “Establishment of the status of Artsakh within Russia.”

A first instance court in Armenia’s southernmost Syunik Province has ordered the arrest of judge Boris Bakhshiyan.

Presiding judge Davit Arghamanyan granted a motion of the National Security Service (NSS) to arrest him on Monday, Pastinfo news site reported.

Earlier last week, the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) approved a request of Prosecutor-General Artur Davtyan to allow the law enforcement authorities to prosecute and arrest Bakhshiyan, a judge of the Syunik Court of General Jurisdiction.

The decision came days after Bakhshiyan ruled to release jailed opposition figure and war veteran Ashot Minasyan on bail. He had also ordered the release of opposition Kajaran Mayor Manvel Paramazyan and Deputy Mayor of Goris Menua Hovsepyan.

The Prosecutor-General’s Office claims that the criminal case has nothing to with the release of Minasyan and is related to Bakhshiyan’s “baseless” order to arrest a defendant in a case he is dealing with. However, his lawyers reject the charges as “political persecution”.

The delegation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia headed by Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri paid a working visit to Armenia on February 2-4.
