Bomb blast wounds 17 in southeastern Turkey, at housing complex for judges and prosecutors

February 18, 2017 By administrator

The bombing took place in the garden of a housing complex for judges and prosecutors in the market town of Viranşehir, about 50 kilometers north of the Syrian border, on Friday night.

The official Anadolu Agency quoted Viranşehir Governor Gungor Azim Tuna as saying that the huge explosion killed a three-year-old child of a court clerk and injured at least 17 others. He further said that the car used in the bombing was reportedly parked near the housing complex by an approximately 20-year-old person.

“The terrorist attack was carried out by detonating the bomb-laden car via remote control. The housing complex was severely damaged,” Tuna said, adding that the wounded were not in critical condition and had been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Turkey Four prosecutors arrested in Syria-bound intel trucks case transferred to Ankara

August 3, 2015 By administrator

Fatih Tekeci – ANKARA

n_86344_1The four prosecutors who ordered the stopping and searching of Syria-bound intelligence trucks in January 2014 and were later arrested on charges of attempting to topple the government, were transferred to Ankara late Aug. 2, from Turkey’s southern district of Tarsus.  Report hurriyet

Former Adana Chief Public Prosecutor Süleyman Bağrıyanık and prosecutors Aziz Takçı, Özcan Şişman and Ahmet Karaca were transferred to Ankara under high security measures with a Turkish Airlines plane late Aug. 2.

The prosecutors, who had given orders to stop and search Syria-bound National Intelligence Organization (MİT) trucks in the southern province of Hatay on Jan. 1, 2014, and in the southern province of Adana on Jan. 19 of the same year, were reported to be transferred to Ankara on grounds they would be tried in the Supreme Court of Appeals.

The four prosecutors will be kept at the Sincan Prison during the trial.

After a crisis erupted due to the stopping of the MİT trucks, the second chamber of the Supreme Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK) decided on Jan. 15 to remove Bağrıyanık, Takçı, Şişman, Karaca and Yaşar Kavalcıklıoğlu, the five prosecutors involved in the incident, from duty until the investigation against them was finalized.

Arrest warrants for Bağrıyanık, Takçı, Şişman, Karaca, and former Adana Gendarmerie Commander Özkan Çokay were issued May 6, on the grounds of “attempting to topple or stop it [the Turkish government] partially or completely from doing its duty by using force and violence.” They were arrested afterwards.
The Tarsus 2nd Court of Serious Crimes had ruled June 10 the four prosecutors and the former commander would remain under arrest, after the defendants’ attorneys left the court session when the judge refused their demand that the court hear the five defendants’ testimonies.

The government has severely criticized the prosecutors and soldiers involved in the operations, arguing that both the truck and its personnel were protected by the MİT’s legal immunity.

Turkey: Prosecutors deepen investigation into claims against Fethullah Gülen

May 29, 2014 By administrator

Nurettin Kurt ANKARA

The Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office is again investigating all previous allegations and cases against Fethullah Gülen, a U.S.-based Islamic scholar and erstwhile ally of the n_67124_1government, including cases in which he was acquitted.

Prosecutors from the crimes against the constitutional order bureau are investigating cases that were either dropped or resulted in an acquittal for Gülen.

The prosecutor’s office is looking into claims that the scholar “founded an organization with the aim of dissolving and plotting a coup against the Turkish Republic.”

Gülen is accused by prosecutors of “attempting to replace the secular state with an Islamic dictatorship ruled by shariah law.”

Prosecutors also say he has brainwashed young people, who attend schools of the Gülen movement, along with placing members of his movement in the Education Ministry and Police Department and even the military thanks to his foundations, schools and prep schools. Judicial officials also believe he has maintained his religious structure by financing it with suspicious sources.

His members have also joined political parties by “pretending to be modern,” according to prosecutors, who also accuse his followers of infiltrating other state organs, local governments and NGOs.

After a series of run-ins with the Turkish judicial system, Gülen moved to the United States in 1998.

Charges against Gülen were dropped in 1999, but Gülen insisted that the trial go ahead. Eventually, he was acquitted in 2006 of charges that he called his supporters to subvert the state. The Supreme Court of Appeals’ ninth bureau subsequently approved the not guilty verdict.
