Davutoğlu: his government will deliver a Turkish flag, Quran & dictionary to each and every home in Macedonia

December 30, 2014 By administrator

Turkey, caliphate and Erdoğan by: ABDULLAH BOZKURT

The narrative, behavior pattern and policy decisions of Turkey’s chief political Islamist Recep Tayyip Erdoğan suggests that he believes the caliphate can be resurrected, with himself as the sole contender to become caliph, thereby gaining autonomous political authority over at least part of the Islamic world.

For this grand ambition, Erdoğan has built a personality cult to reflect his image in the government and many political lackeys just parrot what he says or take their cues from Erdoğan’s speeches. Sensing “Master” Erdoğan’s (the name people around him call him) expectations on this matter, his protégée and caretaker Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu publicly announced in Skopje last week that his government will deliver a Turkish flag, Quran and Turkish dictionary to each and every home in Macedonia. Speaking at a political convention in his hometown Konya a few days later, Davutoğlu joyfully reaffirmed this utterly interventionist policy that is sure to raise eyebrows in many capitals in the Balkans.

As the political Islamist government finds it increasingly difficult to manage its affairs amid a deepening crisis of governance in Turkey, the suspension of the rule of law and gross violation of rights and liberties, we’ll likely see more religiously toned rhetoric and policy actions that are motivated by ideological considerations. Davutoğlu’s holding hands with Hamas leader Khalid Mashaal — who showed up in a surprise visit to Turkey — at a political rally is another indication that sensitive issues that draw the attention of pious Muslims, such as Palestinians, will be played out loudly in the coming months.

Glasgow flies Palestinian flag in support of Gaza

August 8, 2014 By administrator

Scotland’s Glasgow City Council has raised the Palestinian flag over the city chambers in a move to express its solidarity with the people of the Gaza Strip.

374533_Scotland-Glasgow-PalestineSadie Docherty, Lord Provost, or civic head, of Scotland’s largest city said Friday that the flag is an expression of solidarity with Palestinians.

Docherty wrote a letter to Vera Baboun, the mayor of Bethlehem in Palestine’s West Bank, to inform her of this mark of support.

In addition, Docherty offered the Bethlehem mayor “heartfelt sympathy” to the residents in Gaza and said that people of Glasgow “are united by a common desire to support the Palestinian people.”

“I would like to convey my most sincere condolences to the many in your city and throughout Palestine who have been affected by this conflict,” said Docherty.

The decision to raise the Palestinian flag was met by criticism from the Glasgow Jewish Representative Council, while residents of Glasgow welcomed the move, saying on their Twitter accounts that the city made them “proud to be Glaswegian.”

Fife Council has also announced plans to fly the Palestinian flag over Fife House in Glenrothes for a week in protest at the suffering of the people of Gaza.

The support for Palestinians came on the same day as Israel resumed its military offensive in the besieged Gaza Strip after the expiry of a 72-hour-long truce between Tel Aviv and the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas.

About 1,900 Palestinians, including more than 400 children, have been killed and over 9,500 others wounded since the Israeli military first launched its brutal military aggression against Gaza on July 8.

August 7, 2014 By administrator

BeodyanmtararatBerj and Christine (Balekian) Bedoyan have climbed Mt. Ararat, reaching it peak.

A member of the Armenian Relief Society Pasadena “Sose” chapter, Christine had brought a flag of her beloved organization with her on the trip. Berj packed the Homentmen flag, as well as one of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation. They raised the flags of the beloved organizations, in which they have served for most of their lives.

In a Facebook post, Christine reflects that it took the couple three years to prepare and train for the arduous climb.

On their trip, the Bedoyans took the remains of Christine’s father to scatter on Mt. Ararat. The ARF flag that Berj raised adorned the coffin of his late father, while ARS flag Christine brought contained prayers hand-written by her mother.

The death of the man imprisoned for attempting to pull down a Turkish flag should be investigated, Turkish human rights activists said July 14.

Ali Uçkun, 28, was found hanged in a cell at Istanbul’s Metris prison July 9, 10 days after he had been arrested while trying to pull down a flag at a police station.

Uçkun was charged with “propagating a terrorist organization,” “committing crime on behalf of a terrorist organization” and “publicly humiliating the Turkish national flag.”

“We do not condone the incident [of June 28]. However, Uçkun was diagnosed with schizophrenia [80 percent] and should have been hospitalized for treatment instead of being put in jail,” Turkey-based Human Rights Association’s chairman Abdulbaki Boga told reporters on July 14, before filing a criminal complaint about the Istanbul Chief Prosecutor.

“The issue of an arrest order for a schizophrenic, instead of hospitalization, constitutes a crime on the part of the prosecutor and judge, who had succumbed to rage,” the letter states, adding Uçkun’s death appears suspicious and the incident hints the signs of murder as a result of neglect on the part of prison guards.

The group called on all perpetrators to be tried for premeditated murder, criminal abuse of duty, and torture.

Initial police reports stated Uçkun had committed suicide by hanging himself and the corpse was transferred to the Forensic Medicine Institute for further examination and an autopsy.

A masked demonstrator took down the Turkish flag inside of an Air Force base in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır during protests that erupted June 8, following the n_67567_1funeral of a man killed during clashes in Lice. The demonstrator was photographed by Agence France-Presse photo reporter İlyas Akengin, as the demonstrator climbed the flagpole after jumping over the walls surrounding Diyarbakır’s 2nd Air Force Command.

“A masked person among the demonstrators, some of them children, jumped in from the main entrance of the base and climbed the flag pole in the vehicle control zone between two wire fences. A team [of soldiers] was sent to the area and fired two warning shots in the air, but the person took our flag from the pole,” the Turkish General Staff said in a statement.
