Turkey’s state intelligence agency helped deliver arms to parts of Syria under Islamist rebel control during late 2013 and early 2014, according to a prosecutor and court testimony from gendarmerie officers seen by Reuters.

The witness testimony contradicts Turkey’s denials that it sent arms to Syrian rebels and, by extension, contributed to the rise of Islamic State, now a major concern for the NATO member.

Syria and some of Turkey’s Western allies say Turkey, in its haste to see President Bashar al-Assad toppled, let fighters and arms over the border, some of whom went on to join the Islamic State militant group which has carved a self-declared caliphate out of parts of Syria and Iraq.

Ankara has denied arming Syria’s rebels or assisting hardline Islamists. Diplomats and Turkish officials say it has in recent months imposed tighter controls on its borders.

Testimony from gendarmerie officers in court documents reviewed by Reuters allege that rocket parts, ammunition and semi-finished mortar shells were carried in trucks accompanied by state intelligence agency (MIT) officials more than a year ago to parts of Syria under Islamist control.

Four trucks were searched in the southern province of Adana in raids by police and gendarmerie, one in November 2013 and the three others in January 2014, on the orders of prosecutors acting on tip-offs that they were carrying weapons, according to testimony from the prosecutors, who now themselves face trial.

While the first truck was seized, the three others were allowed to continue their journey after MIT officials accompanying the cargo threatened police and physically resisted the search, according to the testimony and prosecutor’s report.

President Tayyip Erdogan has said the three trucks stopped on Jan. 19 belonged to MIT and were carrying aid.

“Our investigation has shown that some state officials have helped these people deliver the shipments,” prosecutor Ozcan Sisman, who ordered the search of the first truck on Nov. 7 2013 after a tip-off that it was carrying weapons illegally, told Reuters in a interview on May 4 in Adana.

Both Sisman and Takci have since been detained on the orders of state prosecutors and face provisional charges, pending a full indictment, of carrying out an illegal search.

The request for Sisman’s arrest, issued by the Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK) and also seen by Reuters, accuses him of revealing state secrets and tarnishing the government by portraying it as aiding terrorist groups.

Sisman and Takci deny the charges.

“It is not possible to explain this process, which has become a total massacre of the law,” Alp Deger Tanriverdi, a lawyer representing both Takci and Sisman, told Reuters.

“Something that is a crime cannot possibly be a state secret.”

More than 30 gendarmerie officers involved in the Jan. 1 attempted search and the events of Jan. 19 also face charges such as military espionage and attempting to overthrow the government, according to an April 2015 Istanbul court document.

An official in Erdogan’s office said Erdogan had made his position clear on the issue. Several government officials contacted by Reuters declined to comment further. MIT officials could not immediately be reached.

“I want to reiterate our official line here, which has been stated over and over again ever since this crisis started by our prime minister, president and foreign minister, that Turkey has never sent weapons to any group in Syria,” Erdogan’s spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said on Wednesday at an event in Washington.

Erdogan has said prosecutors had no authority to search MIT vehicles and were part of what he calls a “parallel state” run by his political enemies and bent on discrediting the government.

“Who were those who tried to stop MIT trucks in Adana while we were trying to send humanitarian aid to Turkmens?,” Erdogan said in a television interview last August.

“Parallel judiciary and parallel security … The prosecutor hops onto the truck and carries out a search. You can’t search an MIT truck, you have no authority.”

‘TARNISHING THE GOVERNMENT’

One of the truck drivers, Murat Kislakci, was quoted as saying the cargo he carried on Jan. 19 was loaded from a foreign plane at Ankara airport and that he had carried similar shipments before. Reuters was unable to contact Kislakci.

Witness testimony seen by Reuters from a gendarme involved in a Jan. 1, 2014 attempt to search another truck said MIT officials had talked about weapons shipments to Syrian rebels from depots on the border. Reuters was unable to confirm this.

At the time of the searches, the Syrian side of the border in Hatay province, which neighbors Adana, was controlled by hardline Islamist rebel group Ahrar al-Sham.

The Salafist group included commanders such as Abu Khaled al-Soury, also known as Abu Omair al-Shamy, who fought alongside al Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden and was close to its current chief Ayman al-Zawahiri. Al-Soury was killed in by a suicide attack in Syrian city of Aleppo in February 2014.

A court ruling calling for the arrest of three people in connection with the truck stopped in November 2013 said it was loaded with metal pipes manufactured in the Turkish city of Konya which were identified as semi-finished parts of mortars.

The document also cites truck driver Lutfi Karakaya as saying he had twice carried the same shipment and delivered it to a field around 200 meters beyond a military outpost in Reyhanli, a stone’s throw from Syria.

The court order for Karakaya’s arrest, seen by Reuters, cited a police investigation which said that the weapons parts seized that day were destined for “a camp used by the al Qaeda terrorist organization on the Syrian border”.

Reuters was unable to interview Karakaya or to independently confirm the final intended destination of the cargo.

Sisman said it was a tip-off from the police that prompted him to order the thwarted search on Jan. 1, 2014.

“I did not want to prevent its passage if it belonged to MIT and carried aid but we had a tip off saying this truck was carrying weapons. We were obliged to investigate,” he said.

Germany: 80% of Turkish Muslims claim welfare payments “Must Read”

May 17, 2015 By administrator

by Daniel Greenfield

turkish-babyTurks came to Germany as ‘guest workers’. They were supposed to provide some “necessary cheap labor” and then leave. But it didn’t work out that way.

And the topic has obvious implications for our own Gang of 8′s guest worker plan, which is going to lead to non-workers bankrupting the social welfare system even further.

Three million Turks live already in Germany already, while 2.5 million of them have German nationality, and the majority of them are conservative Muslims.

Very few Turks in Germany have a regular job; about 20%. The other 80% live on the so-called Hartz IV (state social benefits). 70% of their children have no GCSE; they left school before they finished their basic education.

According to the German state benefit system, every adult citizen who possesses the German nationality, unemployed and cannot find an appropriate job, is entitled to get monthly 482 € ($627). Additionally, parents get for each child under 18 years old, 200 € ($261), plus all their monthly expenditures in terms of rent, heating, power, health insurance, and public transport.

“Amazingly enough some Turks who live on the generous state benefits can afford to buy a house or an apartment and drive luxurious cars like Mercedes or BMW.” Says Klaus, a landlord whose tenants are a case in point.

That part is easy enough. Just like in the United States, you cash in by having a lot of kids. Bring over a whole bunch of family members, churn out some kids from polygamous marriages (the next frontier in marriage equality) and soon you’re bringing in 10 grand a month)

Kamal (46 years old) and his wife Shadia (42 years old) have ten children under 18 and live on Hartz IV (the German social benefit system). They have a monthly net income of about 3000 €. In addition, all their spending on rent, health care, transport, heating, etc. are paid by the state.

Kamal never worked or had a regular job, never finished school, and never learned a profession. Now he claims that he is “ill.” Klaus, the landlord of Kamal says, “The man is fit.” He even confessed to Klaus that he lies when he says he is ill. “He told me once, ‘Why should I work if I can live well without/’” Klaus quotes Kamal.

Kamal is obliged to regularly report his joblessness to the Federal Employment Office (Bundes Agentur für Arbeit) in his town. He does so when he is invited for a job interview. But he always alleges that he is “sick:” He allegedly has “unbearable pains in his back and joints.” Therefore, he cannot take any job. The only one who knows the truth about Kamal is his landlord Klaus.

Klaus and many other Germans are outraged about Kamal and his like. “It is us, taxpayers who have to finance odd buggers like Kamal. This makes me sick.” Klaus frowns at me.

On the other hand, Kamal’s neighbour, Dieter works for a mail company. For working 8 hours daily, he merely get 800 € ($1000) at the end of the month. From this salary he has got to pay his rent and the rest of his expenditure. Left for him is something around 400 € ($500).

This is much worse than Cyprus. And this will eventually break Germany’s back. Imagine millions of people living this way and reproducing at a much higher rate than the native population and the spending becomes completely unsustainable.

German citizens can enter Turkey with simply showing their personal identity card. Hence German Turks, particularly women, travel to Turkey and come back with a “leased” baby. They get the baby temporarily from relatives and claim at the German border that it is their baby who was recently born in Turkey.

Khaled, a Turk, told me that you can get “a false birth certificate” in Turkey for $10.

Back in Germany, the “new” baby is registered at the town hall administration, and the “mother of the baby” starts getting 200 € ($261) monthly.

And don’t kid yourself. This happens here too south of the border.

President of the Republic of Germany, Joachim Gauck has given the coup de grace to the Turkish state lie

May 15, 2015 By administrator

The German-Turkish axis lived.

arton111845-408x480He stopped turning round after a century of complicity in breaking a silence that Armenians vain denounced a hue and cry endlessly.

By recognizing the Armenian Genocide as the first of the twentieth century, Pope Francis has planted at a historic homily at the Vatican ahead of the elevation of St. Gregory of Narek to the rank of Doctor of the Universal Church April 12, 2015.

This is not all!

After the European Parliament and despite its obscure president Martin Schultz, after Austria and before Bulgaria, an exceptional man, President of the Republic of Germany, Joachim Gauck has given the coup de grace to the Turkish state lie in not only recognizing the Armenian genocide of 1915, but above all by admitting complicity or co-guilt of German Second Reich in its commission.

By speaking in precise terms, selected and targeted, the altar of the Cathedral in Berlin April 23, 2015, this man of faith and conviction brought down the wall that concealed the horror and made squealing fury Grand Turk never saw it coming.

To say that the Imperial German government played an obscure role in the execution of the genocide of Armenians by the Young Turk dictatorship during the Great War of 1914-1918. Informed by his intelligence officers, charitable and health organizations, industrialists, intellectuals, Deutsche Bahn employees, consuls and sinister Wangenheim, German Ambassador in Constantinople, he followed from day to day, often without the knowledge of Turks, the progress of the Armenian People’s extermination program.

Flanked by Walter Rössler, former German Consul in Aleppo, a Göppert Otto, a senior official at the German embassy in Constantinople, will remain throughout the war the henchman of Talaat Pasha, Enver and Djemal. It is he who will create a propaganda service responsible for translating and disseminating a revisionist booklet called “Truth on the Armenian revolutionary movement and government action” and many other publications of the same vein under national solidarity as war while imposing censorship on the atrocities committed against the Armenians.

Chancellor Bethmann Hollweg personally ordered the publication of shameful book written by Enver Pasha “Memoirs of Tripoli.”

Another German in charge of Armenian issues at the embassy of Constantinople, Heinrich Mordtmann will be responsible for the theory of the Armenian nationalist plot to justify the killings.

Especially, December 17, 1915, in the heart of terror, when the highest German diplomats – Metternich, German Ambassador Wangenheim successor to Constantinople, Gottlieb von Jagow also Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, horrified – interfered with the Chancellery for a German official disapproval against anti-Armenian atrocities committed by the Turks, Bethmann Hollweg replied, “The proposal for a public condemnation of an ally in the war, would be contrary to our entire history. Our only goal is to keep Turkey on our side until the end of the war, the Armenians perish or not. As the war continues and we will still need the Turks. “

It is therefore in full knowledge that the Chancellor gave the Armenians to their fate, that in order not to affect the Turkish-German sacred union based on a pact which entrusted the high command of the Turkish army from the Second Reich beginning of the Great War.

It is clear that the exclusive priority of the German Empire was maintaining a military front in the Balkans and the Caucasus, and in any case the fate of a people as a whole, it must be totally exterminated.

The German behavior is therefore not within a simple copycat or passive indifference, but a calculation reflected strategic interests well understood. To satisfy his ally, it is undisputed that Germany adopted a demonic choices while dreading his own implication in the commission of the carnage. Despite the indignation of some good German souls, Pastor Johannes Lepsius in particular and contrasting positions in government and administration, it appears that the German authorities will never cease to work, during and after the war, dissimulation, disinformation, forgery and denial of the Armenian genocide.

His involvement in the occultation is such that it has taken the form of an active assent. This appears clearly in the close and mutual collaboration that presided between the two countries for the duration of the war, so that this agreement is the necessary condition for the continuation of the fatal destiny devoted to the Armenian people, as decided by the Young Turks. In full forfeiture of the Ottoman Empire, it is clear that a formal condemnation threatening German would suffice to put an end to the “Final Solution” or strongly impacted its magnitude. The Second Reich never actually intervened and sketched, let alone any humanitarian relief gesture. This decisive fault termination, voluntary, intentional and orchestrated, coupled with a deliberate failure to assist a people victim of a mass crime, determined the devastation of a nation several thousand years.

This is blatantly, of complicity in “crimes against humanity” in the terminology of the time.

In June 1921, defeated Germany thought he saw in the political acquittal Telhirian, executor of the Grand Vizier Talaat, a unique opportunity to exonerate himself and to avoid the banning of nations, fear that summarizes its real ongoing concern throughout this abomination. Then, the interest in the Armenian cause declining over time, looking for German responsibility faded to disappear with the Treaty of Lausanne of 1923, ending the last hopes of a dying people. However, if the principle of the supremacy of the moral law on the opacity of the reason of state is not an illusion, then the inalienable responsibility of Germany is indisputable. Therefore, even out of season 100 years have passed, adopting a bold face stance unjustifiable evil inflicted on the Body and the Soul of the Armenian nation to grow.

By accepting out of a secular silence, compromising and assume its overwhelming role in this “detail” of history in an unprecedented confession designed to improve international awareness morale and pedagogical level, without exempting the least world of its responsibilities, the twenty-first century Germany Joachim Gauck President did so work of justice and peace between the Armenian and Turkish peoples, beyond the Anglo-American palinodes pathetic. It also helps to put these terrible events at the heart of European history.

After this unprecedented declaration of frankness and courage, confronting German archives to those bloated French, Russian, Austrian and Vatican, might even be unnecessary because no state better than Germany has irrefutable evidence of the reality of genocide Armenians. Already alone, the German President has put an end to this complicity that allowed impunity to erase a Christian people of its ancestral territory, by the most barbaric means to install another Muslim allegedly holder of original historical rights.

After shattering confession like repentance of this man, at the risk of the spread of revisionist poison radicalized under the rule of President-Caliph, the floor is now international institutions, Court of Justice or European Court of Human Rights of Man and the great diplomacy.

By restoring clear the links between German fascism, the Second and the Third Reich on the one hand and the two greatest genocides of the twentieth century on the other hand, we want to believe that the moment is near when the sun will rise on Turkey, a Germany and Armenia, united, hand in hand, at the Memorial Dzidzernakapert where the eternal flame burns the soul of our Holy Martyrs, at the foot of the sacred mountain of Christianity: Mount Ararat .

US urges Greece to reject Turkish Stream, focus on Western-backed project

May 9, 2015 By administrator

gas-siWashington is pushing Athens not to abandon a Western-backed Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) project in favor of the Russia-proposed Turkish Stream, a pipeline that would bring Russian gas to Europe via Greece.

Greece should consider joining the TAP, which will link Europe to natural gas supplies from Azerbaijan via Turkey, Greece, Albania and the Adriatic Sea, top US energy diplomat Amos Hochstein said after talks with Greek officials, Reuters reported on Friday.

“Turkish Stream doesn’t exist. There is no consortium to build it, there is no agreement to build it. So let’s put that to the side, and wait until there’s some movement on that and see if that’s relevant or not relevant and in the meantime focus on what’s important – the pipeline we already agreed to, that Greece already agreed to”, Hochstein claimed. He didn’t give any details on the meeting with Greek officials, saying that they “more agreed than disagreed.”

Greek Energy Minister Panagiotis Lafazanis, however, responded that the country would continue supporting the Russian gas pipeline.

“We are backing this project because we think it will be useful for our country,” the minister said in a statement after the talks.

The US envoy said that the US position was the best way for Europe to secure its energy supply is by diversifying its sources and ensuring competition. He also added that having other gas sources would “help with price, reliability of supply, and that will help take the political element out of the supply system.”

Meanwhile, on Thursday Russian President Vladimir Putin reportedly told Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras during a phone conversation that Russia was ready to consider providing financial support for Greek companies that join the Russian pipeline project. Tsipras confirmed his country’s readiness to participate in the Turkish Stream project.

Earlier in April during the Greek PM’s official visit to Moscow, Putin and Tsipras agreed to collaborate in the construction of a new pipeline (http://rt.com/business/247973-turkish-stream-greece-hub/ ), to be part of the Turkish Stream project, which would deliver Russian gas to Europe via Greece. The Russian president said at that time that by joining the project Greece could become one of the main power distribution centers in Europe, and earn hundreds of millions of euros annually from gas transit fees. The Greek PM voiced interest in the proposal, claiming that the project could be a way to boost jobs and investment in the Greek economy. Cash-stripped Greece can also use revenues from potential joint projects with Russia to pay off debt to international creditors.

In December, Gazprom’s CEO Aleksey Miller announced a plan to construct the Turkish Stream pipeline, replacing the South Stream project. Russia was forced to withdraw from South Stream due to EU objections over its construction. South Stream was supposed to connect pipelines running under the Black Sea to a network in Eastern Europe, with Bulgaria as the entry point.

The Turkish Stream pipeline will have an annual capacity of 63 billion cubic meters. Around 14 billion cubic meters of gas are to be supplied to Turkey, with the rest being pumped to a hub on the Turkish-Greek border for customers in Europe.

Turkish film ‘Mastermind’ purports to reveal Jewish conspiracy

May 3, 2015 By administrator

6024703099791640360noAnti-Semitic documentary, based in part on Erdogan speech, claims Jews have conspired to dominate the world for 3,500 years; Turkish ruling party said to be encouraging such conspiracy theories.

Israel Jewish Scene

A documentary recently aired on pro-government Turkish news channel A Haber has sparked a new debate about anti-Semitism in Turkey, home to approximately 17,000 Jews.

The film, called Üst Akıl (Mastermind) and also published on major pro-government newspaper websites such as Sabah, claims that Jewish people have conspired to dominate the world for 3,500 years.

Several academics, journalists, and Etyen Mahçupyan, former adviser to Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu, appear in the film, which is based in part on a speech given by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan last December.

Mastermind opens with the speech, in which Erdoğan describes “operations” against Turkey. “Behind all these there is a mastermind,” he explains, before telling his audience “you know who it is.”

The narrator then says this mastermind, who “rules, burns, destroys, starves the world, creates wars, organizes revolutions and coups, establishes states within states, (and is) the curse of the entire world,” can be found “in Jerusalem, where the sons of Israel live,” before delving into a conspiratorial tirade of historical manipulation.

“This is pretty much the worldview in the AKP now,” says writer and political commentator Mustafa Akyol, referring to Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party.

“The message they’re pumping into society is (that there is) a global Jewish conspiracy against the AKP.”

Akyol explains that anti-Semitism and conspiracy theories in Turkey far predate the AKP, but the party has ushered in an atmosphere wherein these beliefs flourish.

“Unfortunately, conspiracy theory is a national problem,” he says. “But the AKP is now shamelessly aggressive with them, and this so-called documentary is the zenith.”

The AKP started off as a reformist, Islamic-inspired political party in 2001, distancing itself from the conspiracy theories of some of Turkey’s fully Islamist parties.

However, according to Akyol, the party became increasingly paranoid, anti-Semitic and conspiratorial following challenges to its rule such as the widespread Gezi Park protests in spring 2013 and investigation of high-level government corruption in December of that year. The Gezi Park protests, in which 8 people died and around 8,000 were arrested, began as an environmental protest against government plans to urbanize the park but flared into wider dissent, due to heavy handed tactics by riot police and wide spread resentment of the Erdoğan government.

“They decided to interpret these not just as Turkish affairs but a global plot to topple them,” he says.

In one often-ridiculed instance during the protests, Erdoğan’s top economic advisor Yığıt Bulut even alleged that foreign forces were trying to assassinate the then prime minister using telekinesis.

Akyol says the military coup ousting then Egyptian president and Muslim Brotherhood member Mohamed Morsi in July 2013 also scared the pro-Brotherhood AKP.

“In their mind, the coup in Egypt was manufactured by America and Israel to get rid of Ikhwan (the Muslim Brotherhood), and the same thing would have happened in Turkey,” had Erdoğan not prevented it, according to Akyol.

Furthermore, opposition to Israeli policy often transforms into anti-Jewish sentiment.

“Israel isn’t just seen as a nation-state which is heavy-handed in its counter-insurgency,” Akyol says. “It’s seen as ‘the Jews.’ From anger against Israel you jump into a general dislike of the Jews.”

According to the Pew polling agency, 86 percent of Turks see Israel unfavorably.

Dr. Louis Fishman, an American-Israeli specialist in Turkish affairs, worries the anti-Semitism in Turkey is no longer “isolated to the back shelves of bookstores,” but is shifting into the official mainstream.

“The fact that there are anti-Semites or anti-Semitic propaganda in Turkey isn’t the main point. You have anti-Semitism everywhere in the world,” Fishman told The Media Line. “The problem is they’re on state-propagated TV.”

“It’s not just that the state is ignoring it,” he says. “The state is inherently part of it.”

Deputy Prime Minister Bülent Arınç’s said earlier this month that “no one in Turkey is anti-Semitic,” and condemned other countries for “lagging behind Turkey,” in tolerance. However, even high-level AKP officials have publicly made anti-Semitic comments.

During Israel’s Operation Protective Edge in the Gaza Strip last summer, widely condemned in Turkey, AKP deputy Samil Tayyar tweeted, “May your race vanish and may you always have your Hitler.”

Ankara mayor and prominent AKP member Melih Gökçek supported pop star Yıldız Tilbe during the conflict in Gaza after she tweeted, “May Allah bless Hitler.”

Former Deputy Prime Minister Beşir Atalay accused “international Jewry” of being behind the Gezi protests because they are “jealous of Turkey’s growth.”

Though Ataly later retracted his statements, none of the other officials apologized nor were condemned for their anti-Semitic remarks.

Erdoğan himself has made public comments about the “interest rate lobby,” often code-word for a Jewish plot, and said Judaism is “demeaning” to women at an award ceremony in Bursa in February.

Dr. Aykan Erdemir is a member of parliament from the secularist opposition Republic People’s Party (CHP) and one of the founding members of the International Panel of Parliamentarians for Freedom of Religion or Belief.

Erdemir says hate speech in the media and politics encourages such views in regular society.

“(Erdogan) has in a way inculcated a lot of prejudice and hate in Turkish society,” he says. “How? Through education, through government-mouthpiece media, through hateful and spiteful government announcements and declarations.”

He worries Turkish society has internalized this government-propagated hate, in the years since AKP came to power in 2002, and that the damage will last for decades.

“Outing the AK Party is a simple task, but undoing hate, intolerance and prejudice, that’s a very long process,” he told The Media Line.

Turkey ranked 17th in a report by the Anti-Defamation League last year, with 69% of Turks labelled anti-Semitic, compared to the world average of 26%.

Between July 17 and 18 last year during the strikes in Gaza, 30,926 Turkish-language tweets were sent by 27,309 users praising Hitler and the Holocaust, according to a survey by research group Gonzo Insight.

Erdemir says that during the AKP’s tenure, “there have been some baby steps vis-à-vis extending minority rights, and I salute them for that. But ultimately, most of this ends up being window dressing,” pointing out that anti-Semitic rhetoric has risen to unprecedented levels.

“Erdoğan said anti-Semitism is a crime against humanity, but then he attacked an aggrieved Soma miner with the words ‘you sperm (or spawn) of Israel,’” Erdemir says, referring to an incident during the Soma mining disaster last May when Erdoğan was caught on video allegedly making the slur.

Mois Gabay, a 31-year-old Jewish Turk who frequently contributes to the Jewish newspaper Şalom, says it’s important to acknowledge the progress made under the AKP.

He mentions the recent opening of the government-restored Great Synagogue in Edirne, Europe’s third largest. “It was such an amazing thing for us,” he says.

Other steps have also been taken.

The Holocaust Memorial Day in January was given more pomp than usual, being held in the capital Ankara and attended by a high-level government official for the first time.

Several old churches and synagogues have been restored and reopened by the government and $2.5 billion worth of minority-owned properties seized by the state in the past have been returned.

Though anti-Semitic speech runs rampant, the government-organized pogroms and minority-targeting taxes of the twentieth century are a thing of the past, and anti-Semitic attacks are exceedingly rare.

“I’m feeling more positive about the atmosphere now, but still feeling negative about the manipulation of the media,” Gabay says.

“It’s become normal to write things against Jews because there’s no punishment for it,” he says, adding that it has worsened in the last two years.

Though hate crime legislation was passed last year, Gabay would like to see a hate speech law.

“The laws have to be changed and have to be more functional for all minorities,” he says.

Though anti-Semitism and other forms of hate speech have been known to creep into even mainstream secularist newspapers, the worst offenders are the Islamist ones such as Yeni Akit, which is distributed onboard Turkey’s national airline, and whose editor regularly meets with Erdoğan and flies in his presidential jet.

During the Soma disaster the paper’s headline proclaimed “The boss’s son-in-law is a Jew.” Last September Yeni Akit columnist Faruk Köse called on Turkey’s Jews to be taxed to pay for buildings damaged in Gaza during Operation Protective Edge.

Gabay told The Media Line that quite a few young Jewish people are leaving Turkey, and he asserts that one reason is because they don’t feel comfortable being bombarded by such hate speech.

Dr. Fishman, who lived in Turkey for 10 years, says this is no surprise.

“If you’re a Jewish family, your people are cursed regularly on the nightly news … you read Yeni Akit and see this anti-Semitism. Do you really want your children to grow up in this atmosphere?”

Dr. Erdemir submitted questions addressing anti-Semitism to parliament last September, but says there wasn’t much of a response.

Turkish-Dutch mafia war spills more blood: Report

April 28, 2015 By administrator

AMSTERDAM

n_81642_1The son of a Turkish man who had been questioned over alleged links to a recent series of mafia shootings in downtown Istanbul was killed in the Netherlands on April 26, Dutch media has reported.

Unidentified assailants raked through the speeding car of 26-year-old Barış Önder in Osdorp. The car stopped only after hitting parked vehicles, while Önder was killed and the assailants escaped in a dark colored vehicle late at night, the reports said. report hurriyetdailynews

The victim’s father, Atilla Önder, had testified in Istanbul as a suspect after two separate targeted hits in one day in upscale Istanbul neighborhoods left three people dead late Dec. 24, 2014.

Ali Ekber Akgün was killed when two men jumped out of a car traveling behind him and shot him in his car as he waited at a red light in Sarıyer’s İstinye neighborhood, while Vedat Şahin, the brother of known mafia boss Sedat Şahin, was killed in a hail of bullets along with a friend on Nişantaşı’s busy Vali Konağı Avenue.

Before the murder, Atilla Önder had been accused of threatening Akgün, who was also involved in real estate business with Dutch connections. After he testified, Önder had said “games are being played on his son.”

In January 2015, 44-year-old Okan Fidan was killed by two assailants in Amsterdam in a murder that officials believe could have links with drug trade.

Suspicions about an international mafia vendetta go even beyond Turkey and the Netherlands.  Hüseyin Saral, the head of a gang that was at war with Sedat Şahin’s criminal organization, was found dead in Italy in 2005. Şahin and some of his accomplices were apprehended in the same year in connection with the crime.

Turkish TV Accidentally Airs Genocide Centennial Events Instead of Gallipoli

April 27, 2015 By administrator

okISTANBUL (ArmRadio)—On April 24, CNBC Turkey mistakenly aired footage from the commemorations of the Armenian Genocide centennial instead of Gallipoli celebrations during its news program.

While the anchorwoman spoke about the events marking the anniversary of the Battle of Gallipoli, footage on the background was showing commemoration of the Armenian Genocide centenary at the Dzidzernagapert Armenian Genocide Memorial in Yerevan.

CNBC showed Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian welcoming foreign dignitaries. Only close to the end of the report, Erdogan was shown placing flowers at the memorial of the Battle of Gallipoli.
