President Sarkissian meets with TUMO founders

YEREVAN, JUNE 11, ARMENPRESS. Armenian President Armen Sarkissian held a meeting today with Sam Simonian and Silva Simonyan, founders of the Simonian Educational Foundation, the president’s office said.

The President and the founders talked about the foundation’s activities, projects and future programs.

They touched upon the activity of the TUMO Center of Creative Technologies, its achievements and successes, and new initiatives.

The President said he is excited by the activity of the center, and that Tumo is a brilliant example which directly shows what direction Armenia should take.

He said that it is also an example how successful Diaspora-Armenians can create an interesting solution by sharing their ideas and professionalism in their homeland, a solution which is unique in the world.

Sam Simonian and Silva Simonian are the founders of TUMO.

On Monday, 22 January, Armenian President Serge Sarkissian was received, accompanied by Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian, at the Paris City Hall.

After a private meeting, Serge Sarkissian and Anne Hidalgo addressed a crowd of several hundred people. The two ambassadors, Viguen Tchitetchian and Jonathan Lacote, the representatives of Artsakh in France, Hovhannès Kevorkian, the co-presidents of CCAF Ara Toranian and Mourad Papazian, the elected representatives of Pauline Veron and Patrick Klugman, Levon Sayan, Robert were present. In particular, it was announced that a TUMO school, for the practice of digital, will open in Paris next September, on the model of that of Yerevan. Armenian TUMO Team conquers bronze at the FIRST Global youth robotics competitionArmenia’s TUMO Center for Creative Technologies team won a bronze medal taking the third place at the FIRST Global youth robotics competition held in Washington, D.C.

FIRST, an acronym meaning For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, was established in 1989 and has organized local robotics competitions for elementary and high school students for many years.  However, this year marked the first time they held a global competition, The Armenian Weekly reported

Tumo team left ahead only the European united team and Poland in a competition that brought together teams representing 163 countries.

The Armenian team comprised 14-18 years old TUMO students, including Maria Ter-Minasyan, Davit Hovhannisyan Tigran Kirakosyan, Aram Madatsyan, Lilit and Ashot Tarumyans as well as the team leader, TUMO robotics class trainer Hayk Voskanyan.

The team will arrive in Yerevan on July 21.

I had the pleasure meeting ZARA Bodaghyan at Yerevan DigiTech; she is a very dynamic person, full of information about digital technologies.

The Tumo Center for Creative Technologies,  is a free of charge digital media learning center in Yerevan, Armenia. Since its opening in 2011, the center has provided thousands of students aged 12–18 an open environment where they can use the latest in digital tools, learn from media professionals, and explore the intersection of technology and art.

Tumo is a non-profit venture founded by Sam and Sylva Simonian who fully fund its educational program through the Simonian Educational Foundation.

New TUMO center to open in Armenia’s Tavush province

new-tumoOn September 24, a presentation event organized by Koghb Foundation for Development of Education, Culture and Sport took place in the Special Events Auditorium of Gafesjian Center for the Arts, announcing the launch of Koghb-TUMO project.

At the event, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Koghb Foundation, Tavush regional administration, Ucom and the charitable organization Mission Childhood.

Koghb Foundation Director Artur Abovyan, and Director of TUMO Center for Creative Technologies Marie Lou Papazian presented the details of Koghb-TUMO project.

According to the speakers, a new TUMO center for at least 600 students will be opened in Koghb community of Tavush province, which will also serve the teenagers and young people from Noyemberyan, Berdavan and other border communities. The construction of the center will start in November, and the educational activity of the center will commence in 2018.

The educational program will repeat the one implemented in TUMO centers of Yerevan, Dilijan, Gyumri and Stepanakert, and the teaching staff and international experts will continue sharing their knowledge and experience in the new center as well.

Karabakh: HIGH-TECHNOLOGIES The center “Tumo” Stepanakert will open in September

They wanted to read on the progress of work. During the visit, Prime Minister Arayik Harutyunyan noted with satisfaction as the quality of work that his progress. The center “Tumo” Stepanakert to open its doors in September. The center teaches computer science and techniques of new information technologies and is aimed primarily at young people will be of paramount importance for the economic development of Nagorno-Karabakh by the formation of youth. “Karabakh Telekom” has made available to the center 150 million drams, the interior being supported by the Ugab (Armenian General Benevolent Union). The center “Tumo” in full activity, will receive 500 children from various regions of Artsakh aged 7 to 17 years.
