Syria’s Kurdish fighters target two Turkish tanks across the border

April 27, 2017 By administrator

Two Turkish tanks were targeted by anti-tank guided missiles across the border inside Turkey by Kurdish YPG fighters located in Afrin, Syria on Wednesday, April 27, Defense Watch reports.

According to reports clashes have broken out between the Turkish army and Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) in northwestern Syria’s autonomous Afrin region.

Turkish forces fired artillery shells and mortars into Firfirike village in Afrin’s Rajo district, as YPG fighters responded to the attacks and clashes continue according to reports.

A tweet by the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) has also confirmed clashes.

Turkish army presence on the Afrin border has been heightened recently with howitzers and armoured vehicles being brought to the area, Turkish media has reported.

NATO Sponsored Terrorist Mercenaries in Northern Aleppo Equipped with Turkish M60 Tanks

Global Research, November 13, 2016

The Turkish army in al-Shahba region of Northern Aleppo has equipped the terrorists with heavy weapons, including M60 tanks.

According to Kurdish-affiliated Hawar news, several footage and images have been released by the terrorist groups in different websites which show that they are using the Turkish army’s armored vehicles in Tal Jorji village in al-Bab region.

The images show that the terrorists are using M60 tanks.

Turkey has deployed a large number of its tanks and armored vehicles in Northern Syria after the start of the Euphrates Shield operation by Ankara.

The Turkish forces, backed by US-led coalition aircraft, started the Euphrates Shield military operation in August, claiming that they intend to purge terrorists from Syria’s Northern territories and create security zones for accommodation of refugees.

Media activists said earlier this month that the Turkey-backed militants operating in Northern Syria within the framework of the Euphrates Shield operation retreated from 13 strategic villages near al-Bab in Aleppo to open way for the ISIL’s operations.

According to the Lebanese al-Safir newspaper, the ISIL occupied Bor’an, al-Wash, Tanouza, Salsana, Job al-Asi, Dawir al-Hawa, Houmad, Salasina, al-Barouza and a number of other villages in a surprise attack on Tuesday following a rapid withdrawal of the Euphrates Shield operation forces.

A large number of media activists reported that no real clashes happened between the ISIL and the Turkey-backed militants, and the Euphrates Shield operation forces fled the scene en masse.

Hawar news agency accused Turkey of ordering his forces to retreat from the villages in the South of Akhtarin region near al-Bab.

The agency said the move by Turkey was part of a joint operational plan with the ISIL against the Kurdish troops in the regions under their control.

Azerbaijan uses tank for first time since ceasefire signing, NKR Defense Army soldier killed by sniper bullet

December 9, 2015 By administrator

f56681e685a1b5_56681e685a1f3.thumbThe situation on the frontline remains tense. It is the first time since the signing of the ceasefire that Azerbaijani troops used a tank opening fire at military positions of Defense Army of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic  in the southern direction of the line of contact between the armed forces of Karabakh and Azerbaijan, according to the press service of NKR Defense Army.

On December 8 and the night of December 9 the Azerbaijani side violated the ceasefire about 180 times on the line of contact.

During that period Azerbaijani frontline units fired over 1,500 shots at Armenian positions from small arms of various calibers, 60mm (101 shells), 82mm (193 shells) and 120mm (35 shells) mortars, and RPG-7 (3 shells) and AGS-17 (27 shells) grenade launchers.

Azerbaijan also used a Turkish-made TR-107 rocket launcher (17 shells) and a tank (5 shells).
A contract serviceman of NKR Defense Army, 24-year-old Garik Gurgeni Avanesyan, died from a gunshot wound after a bullet was fired from a large-caliber sniper rifle from the Azerbaijani side. The incident happened around 9:10 pm December 8 in a military unit located in the eastern direction of the line of contact. An investigation is underway. NKR Defense Ministry expressed condolences to the family, friends and fellow soldiers of Garik Avanesyan.

NKR Defense Ministry said that the destabilizing actions of Azerbaijan will not go without a response and the consequences of the situation will be grave and irreversible.

The amazing (and bizarre) homemade Kurdish armor fighting ISIS in Syria

September 28, 2014 By administrator

Kurdish tank

Irregular armed forces have to rely on their ingenuity to arm themselves. And while rifles and mortars can be bought on the black market, getting hold of a tank or two can be a bit tricky. But you can always make a DIY version with your own hands.

At least that’s what fighters of the Kurdish militias in northern Syria do. Called People’s Protection Units, or YPG, they have been dedicated to protecting Kurds from whatever the three-year-long war in the country may throw at them. Lately it’s been the Islamic State, the big bad terrorist group that proved to be worthy of being bombed by America itself.

The People’s Protection Units don’t have killer drones or stealth bombers. They are mostly armed with small arms, with some heavier weapons such as mortars and rocket launchers, pickup trucks turned into mobile gun turrets and an occasional piece of artillery.

And the Kurds also have homemade armor – an assortment of vehicles that would make Marvin Heemeyer proud. (Heemeyer, an American welder, infamously used a bulldozer, armor plating and a few guns to go on a rampage in in Granby, Colorado, in 2004 to settle grievances over a zoning conflict.)

The former cars and track vehicles may look like cast-offs from Tatooine desert scenes of Star Wars, but with proper deployment they are no less efficient in battle than the early tanks of World War I were on European battlefields.
