Syrian army, US-backed forces battle at important crossroad near Tanf

December 14, 2018 By administrator

Last night, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and U.S.-backed Jaysh Mughawar Al-Thoura group clashed near the Al-Tanf region of southeast Homs, Al-Masdar News cited a source familiar with the matter as saying.

According to the source, the clashes broke out between the two parties at the Al-Zarqa Crossroad, which is located north of the Rukban Refugee Camp.

The source said that at least three members of Jaysh Mughawar Al-Thoura were killed, while a Syrian Arab Army soldier was wounded near the Al-Tanf region.

The clashes broke out between the two parties after each group accused one another of opening fire on the other; however, the clashes only lasted for a short while last night.

Typically, the U.S. Coalition intervenes by launching airstrikes against the Syrian military, but it appears that they were absent from the Al-Tanf skies last night.

The Al-Tanf region was captured by the U.S.-backed New Syrian Army (NSA) after they launched a big offensive in southeast Homs in 2016.

Since then, the U.S.’ control of the Al-Tanf region has been the source of controversy between Washington and Moscow, as the latter accuses the former of illegally occupying this part of the country.

Breaking News: Syrian Army unleashed artillery fire on Turkish forces in south Aleppo, casualties reported

February 5, 2018 By administrator

BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:53 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army or allied paramilitary groups or both have reportedly started shelling the freshly established positions of Turkish forces in the southern countryside of Aleppo province according to both opposition and pro-government sources.

Opposition sources says that Syrian Army and allied Iranian-linked paramilitary groups have unleashed artillery fire onto recently established positions of the Turkish Army in the strategic Al-Eis area of southern Aleppo province.

Pro-government sources report that shelling of Turkish military positions has taken place – even claiming wounded among Turkish ranks – but do not specify whether or not the Syrian Army or allied militias or both are responsible for the attacks.

What is known is that non-Syrian Army pro-government units based opposite the Al-Eis area are mostly Iranian-linked or Iranian (proper) forces.

On a final note, Turkish Army artillery has apparently responded to the attacks with a rocket artillery salvo against government positions around the town of Shugheydilah.

Updates to follow.

Syrian Army Liberates Over 18 Towns from Turkish terrorist ISIS

January 26, 2016 By administrator

Syrian-Army-20LATAKIA (Public Radio of Armenia) — The Syrian Army’s General Command said in a statement that the army forces in cooperation with popular defense groups managed to liberate over 18 towns and villages in the Northern countryside of the Latakia province.

Syria’s Army General Command mentioned that the most notable of the emancipated  towns and villages are Al-Ghanimeh, al-Qalai’e, Beit Sukkar, al-Ouainat, Khan al-Joz, Beit Riha, Bradon, al-Souda, al-Khadra, Reef Mekhtaro, al-Jamousiye, al-Saraya, al-Rayyana, al-Shakria, and a number of vantage points and hills covering an area of over 120 square kilometers. They added that the liberation was achieved after eliminating large numbers of terrorists while others fled towards the Turkish borders as their ranks suffered a complete breakdown.

The statement was published after the army units and pro-government forces established control over Rabi’a area on Sunday morning, an achievement by which the pro-government forces restricted terrorists’ movement and cut off their supply lines.

The statement pointed out that last week’s victories made by the Armed Forces were significant in the liberation of this week’s territories. Specifically, the territory of Rabi’a was one of the biggest gathering points and a nexus for transportation for terrorists in the area, therefore establishing control over it cut off terrorists’ supply lines and restricted their movement

Syrian Army General Command said that establishing control over Rabi’a area serves as a catalyst for eliminating the remaining terrorist groups in Latakia’s countryside. The statement concluded by stressing commitment to continue fighting terrorism and calling on all those who were involved in bearing arms against the state to abandon their weapons and resolve their legal status before it’s too late.

Before liberation of the region, the Syrian army had besieged the Rabi’a, the second stronghold of the militants in the Latakia countryside from the West, South and North. The militant groups, while withdrawing from the region, left behind dozens of dead or wounded members and pulled back the rest of their forces from more territories in the Northern parts of Latakia.

The militant groups suffered a heavy death toll in the attacks and fled the battlefield to evade more casualties.

Syrian Army Breaks 2-Year ISIL Siege of Airbase in Aleppo

November 10, 2015 By administrator

1029620794The Syrian Armed Forces have broken a two-year ISIL siege of the Kweiris airbase in the Aleppo province, a military source told RIA Novosti.

For two years, Syrian soldiers stationed at the airbase have been under an ISIL siege.

“The army managed to break through to Kweiris defenders, lifting the siege which had lasted over two years,” the military source said.

The source added that “this became possible after the liberation of Sheikh Ahmad [a village 2 km away from the airbase].”
Syrian government forces continue their offensive in the Aleppo province in the north of the country.
Over the weekend, the Syrian army supported by popular forces advanced in the area, leaving dozens of the militants dead or wounded.
In October 2015, the Syrian army, with support of Russian aircraft deployed in Syria at the request of Syrian President Bashar Assad, started a military operation, trying to free territories controlled by the Islamic State and the Nusra Front militants.

gag-1029620794With the support of Russian airstrikes, the Syrian Army has taken control of approximately 250 square kilometers in Aleppo province.

“Operation Army ATS continues in the south-eastern province of Aleppo,” said Latakia representative of the Syrian Army, Brigadier General Ali Mayhoub, according to RIA Novosti. “In cooperation with civil defense groups we control more than 250 square kilometers, and returned stability in dozens of villages and towns in the region.”
“The army in collaboration with the civil defense forces managed to open the way to Aleppo…to ensure the safe passage of this important route,” Mayhoub added.
The general also said that terrorists sustained a large number of casualties and loss of equipment.

“The survivors fled toward Raqqa,” Mayhoub said, referring to the self-proclaimed capital of the Islamic State terrorist group.

“Also, our army has strengthened control over the strategic height of Mraga and working to expand its control of the area. In addition, the air force is delivering pinpoint strikes against concentrates of IS and al-Nusra terrorist groups in the vicinity of the airport and near Kueres military air school in the village of Umm Arkile,” Mayhoub said.
Also on Thursday, Syrian government forces gained a key hill in a northern suburb of the capital of Damascus. The Syrian Army has captured al-Mashtal Heights, as well as a number of buildings in the suburb of Harast.

“Many terrorists have been killed and their weaponry and fortifications destroyed,” Mayhoub said.

A large number of foreign fighters have also been killed in Damascus’ southwestern suburb of Darayya.
The Syrian Army is now making a “serious advance” toward the ancient city of Palmyra.

We have also made serious advance toward the city of Pal myra near al-Barayat,” Mayhoub added. “Islamic State terrirst sustained heavy losses. Syria army retakes control of Dukhaniyeh near Damascus

October 6, 2014 By administrator

Syria-librated-townThe Syrian army has managed to regain control of the strategic area of Dukhaniyeh in the southeastern part of the capital city of Damascus, reports say.

Local media reported on Monday that “security and stability” have been restored in Dukhaniyeh and its surroundings after militants were pushed out of the region.

State television broadcast live images from the strategic area and the so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirmed the withdrawal of the militants from the region.

Syrian forces launched an operation to flush militants out of Dukhaniyeh after it was captured by foreign-backed militants in September.

Terrorist groups reportedly used the area to launch mortar attacks on the Old City of Damascus and Jaramana district outside the capital.

An unnamed security source said the Syrian government troops can now “tighten the noose on terrorist groups in Ain Tarma and Jobar,” two other militant-held areas located in the eastern Ghouta area near Damascus.

“The operation in Ghouta will continue until it is completely cleared of any terrorist presence,” the source added.

In recent months, Syrian forces have managed to retake several militant-held areas around the capital.

Syria has been gripped by deadly violence since 2011. Western powers and their regional allies – especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey – are reportedly supporting the militants operating in Syria.

More than 191,000 people have been killed in over three years of fighting in the war-ravaged country, says the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), calling the figure a probable “underestimate of the real total number of people killed.”
