Turkey PM is sued for insulting Armenians

davutoglu suet Istanbul branch of the Human Rights Association (IHD) of Turkey has filed lawsuits against Turkish PM Ahmet Davutoğlu, and Mayor Enver Başaran of Aşkale town of Erzurum Province in Turkey.

The respective IHD Istanbul Branch statement noted that lawsuits have been filed for inciting a part of the society hatred and enmity against another part of the society belonging to another religion and nationality, according to Agos Armenian bilingual weekly of Istanbul.

The statement also noted Davutoğlu’s recent remarks that now the Kurds are collaborating with the Russians, just like the Armenian “gangs” collaborated with them at the turn of the 20th century.

In addition, the statement pointed to Başaran’s offensive remarks against Armenians, during the recent celebrations of “liberating” Aşkale from the Armenians.

Nairit sued by Electric Networks of Armenia, hopes to avoid bankruptcy

Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA) Company filed a lawsuit against Nairit Plant. The company asked the court to declare Nairit bankrupt over the plant’s debt of AMD 1.2 billion. No decision was made so far, even though several court sittings were held. On July 1 the court decided to postpone hearings on the case until September, Panorama.am reports.

“Negotiations are underway with ENA. I think they will yield a positive result, especially as the Armenian government is also interested in the plant’s reoperation. I am sure the government will do its best to re-operate it, even in case of a slight chance,” Nairit Plant’s lawyer Armen Abovyan told Panorama.am.

ENA previously filed a suit against Nairit, but at that time the plant managed to pay its debt. Nairit hopes to repay the current debt as well so as avoid bankruptcy.

Turkish teacher sued for learning Kurdish language from his students

ERZURUM, Turkey’s Kurdish region,— A criminal complaint has been filed against Turkish teacher Mustafa Engin for speaking Kurdish with his students at school.

Mustafa Engin, a class teacher in Binpınar village of Erzurum’s Karaçoban district, was first exiled on the grounds that he learned Kurdish to be able to understand his students, and spoke Kurdish instead of Turkish at school.

The teacher against whom Erzurum Provincial Directorate for National Education filed a criminal complaint was later subjected to a criminal case initiated by the prosecution office that put the complaint of the Directorate in process. The first hearing of the trial will be held in Hınıs district of Erzurum Tuesday.

Pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Iğdır MP Pervin Buldan has also tabled recently a parliamentary motion asking about the legal process the teeacher has been subjected to.

District Director of National Education Fatih Aydın, National Education Branch Chief Murat Çiçek and Binpınar Elementary School Director Kemal Akdu threatened him to retract his statement, saying that ‘Should something happen to us, this will give you a headache as well. You cannot get along together here if you don’t retract your statement’.
