Paris: CCAF denounces dangerous methods of Azerbaijan’s ambassador to France

January 4, 2017 By administrator

The CCAF is deeply shocked by the content and form of the letter sent by Mr Amirbayov, Ambassador of Azerbaijan in France to Mr Claude Goasguen, Mayor of the 16th arrondissement of Paris and Mr Patrick Karam, President of the Chredo (coordination Of Christians of Orients in danger) and vice-president of the Regional Council of Île-de-France.

He denounced the pressure of a representative of a foreign State on elected representatives of the Republic, as well as the many counter-truths with which this text unworthy of a diplomatic representation on French territory was littered. This rather disgusted reaction of Azerbaijan to a conference on the Egyptians of Egypt at the mayor’s office of the 16th arrondissement of Paris, which had only scratched in less than a minute the question of Nagorno-Karabakh , Speaks volumes about the fanaticism of this state which may regulate freedom of expression in France, if it can not muzzle it in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Mr. Patrick Karam, in his firm, politically substantiated and historically substantiated reply, dismantled this gross disinformation step by step, while recalling in his conclusion that “using force to maintain Nagorno Karabakh in an attachment that the population Rejects with the last energy is vain and morally indefensible “. We thank him for that.

This affair raises the question of the presence in France of this ambassador who goes beyond his prerogatives once again. During a televised debate on France 24 with Mourad Papazian, co-president of the CCAF, he allowed himself to call this French citizen “enemy” of his country. Today he recidivates by sending his staff to attend a conference to which he was not invited, then pressing his organizers and conveying under a pseudo appearance of tolerance, an anti-Armenian message as hateful as false. It does not seem to us that such behavior, even if it takes a model of the brutality of the Azerbaijani State, corresponds to the usages of diplomatic life on the national territory. Accordingly, the CFC calls on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to be vigilant and firm on the dangerous methods of Mr. Amirbayov.

Paris: Nicolas Sarkozy receives a delegation of Armenian associations and personalities

November 15, 2016 By administrator

sarkozy-armenianAs part of its campaign for the primary right, Nicolas Sarkozy received Monday, November 14 at his headquarters in the rue de l’Université a delegation of Armenian personalities and associations in the Paris region. The meeting took place a few days after his visit, Wednesday, November 9 at the National Armenian memory Décines Centre, where he had addressed a panel of local Armenian representatives, Raffi Krikorian, president of the CFC in the Lyon region.

In Paris, Ara Toranian, national co-chair of CCAF, took the first speech in minutes to expose the feelings of the French of Armenian origin in relation to this campaign and their concerns about the precarious conditions in which continues to be the Armenian entity 100 years after the genocide. He mentioned in particular the situation in Nagorno Karabakh, a real strategic and civilizational lock, whose survival guaranteed not only that of Armenia but also represented a security for Europe. He renewed the request for a Center of Civilization and Memory in Paris, indispensable for the perpetuation of an Armenian identity that we must all the more defend that it was the target of an enterprise of extermination. He finally reaffirmed his refusal of Turkey’s entry into Europe.

The very frank discussion with the former President of the Republic also spoke of the commitment of some personalities who are close to him and whose unclear ties with the Azerbaijani dictatorship are no longer to be demonstrated. On this issue as on all the others, Nicolas Sarkozy was very direct and answered the questions of all the participants. He asserted himself as the leader of his camp, hammering that it was he who set the course of his campaign and not his supporters, whose decisions he did not necessarily endorse or automatically approve. He recalled that all his rivals at the primary had been his close collaborators, which did not prevent them being today with him in an internal competition. He mentioned his commitments and especially his actions as President of the Republic, which for him remain more talkable than promises. He particularly remembered that when he was voting for the law criminalizing denial of the Armenian genocide, Alain Juppe and Fillon were vehemently against the law and had to scrap with his ministers to keep his word Towards the Armenian community.

He also said his very old opposition to the entry of Turkey into Europe, contrary to the position of the Socialists and Francois Hollande, which he said were for and continues to be. He also said that he had fought at the time of Jacques Chirac against his own camp, in particular Jean-Louis Debré, to block the favorable trend in Ankara. For Nicolas Sarkozy, there can be no difficulty between him and the Armenians of France whose French patriotism he hailed and the attachment to their cause which is also that of the Republic.

Referring to the issue of genocide, he said he would refuse to trivialize its meaning. According to him, there were only 4 genocides, the Armenians, the Jews, the Cambodians, and the Tutsi. The genocidal dimension of the Armenian drama makes the defense of the identity of this people a universal struggle. Bearing in mind the indifference of the media and sometimes their hostility towards the Armenian cause, he drew parallels with his personal situation and invited the Armenians to remain faithful to what they are, to continue their journey and to Not to worry about these negative comments, especially those who have spoken out against penalizing the denial of the Armenian genocide.

Paris: Sting Reopens Bataclan Concert Hall a Year After Massacre

November 12, 2016 By administrator

paris-bataclanThe Bataclan theater in Paris reopened November 12 with a concert by Sting. The theater had been closed since the terrorist attacks last November that killed 130 people, 89 in the Bataclan.

Sting, who played the Bataclan in 1979 with The Police, opened his set by mentioning the victims.

“We’ve got two important things to do tonight,” he said in French, Billboard magazine reports. “First, to remember and honor those who lost their lives in the attacks a year ago and to celebrate the life and the music of this historic venue.”

He and the crowd then observed a moment of silence. Afterward, saying “We shall not forget them,” Sting began “Fragile,” which contains the lyrics “Tomorrow’s rain will wash the stains away/But something in our minds will always stay” and “Nothing comes from violence and nothing ever could.” The rocker also played a song called “Inshallah,” explaining the Arabic term as a “word of hope,” according to Billboard. His set list was clearly designed to be a crowd-pleaser, liberally sprinkled with hits from his days with The Police and his solo career.

Security was intense as the concert hall reopened, with armed police, extensive barricades and body searches. BBC reporter Nick Garnett said he was searched three times before being allowed to enter.

“It was difficult going through that door,” said Elodie Suigo, who lost six friends in the attack. “I don’t think I was the only one …. We cannot say it was a magical moment because of everything that changed in our lives. But [Sting] is a really great man,” she said, according to the Associated Press. Aurelien Perrin, 25, survived the Bataclan massacre but had friends who did not. “I came alone tonight,” he told the Associated Press. “It’s very emotional, as I keep getting flashbacks of that night. I was standing just there, just the other side of the bar when it happened. Tonight is the first time I’ve been back here since,” he said. “I’m here because it’s important to finally finish a concert that was never allowed to end. It’s for the memory of my friend and for all the 90 people who died,” he said. Jules Frutos, who has been one of the managers of the venue for 12 years, said “We had to go on after such horror and not leave a mausoleum, a tomb,” the AFP reported.

The concert hall had, of course, been cleaned and refurbished to its original state, and the smell of fresh paint lingered. It will be closed again November 13, the actual anniversary of the bloodbath in which terrorists associated with Daesh attacked cafes, a stadium and the Bataclan in the worst terrorist violence ever to hit France.

More than 1,700 people are official recognized as victims of the attacks. Nine remain hospitalized and others are paralyzed or otherwise permanently injured. More than 600 are still receiving psychological treatment related to the attacks, the French government says.

Proceeds from the show will go to two charities that help survivors, Sting said. The Bataclan reported that all 1,000 tickets to the event sold out quickly and that they’d given other tickets to the families of those slain in the massacre last year. The hall has a capacity of 1,500.  Psychologists and counselors were on hand at the venue, the BBC reported.
