Note: This is an expanded version of a guest post published in The Washington Post under Valerie Strauss’s column, The Answer Sheet, on March 27, 2012.

The largest charter school network in the United States is operated by people in and associated with the Turkish Imam Gulen Movement (GM), a secretive and controversial Turkish religious sect. With 135 schools enrolling more than 45,000 students, this network is substantially larger than KIPP, the well-known charter management organization with 109 schools.

Judges to deal with Genocide to demand for proper compensation – British lawyer

YEREVAN. – British famous human rights protector Geoffrey Robertson believes that “the Genocide recognition process should be brought to an end.”

He published in 2009 his legal notes ‘Was there an Armenian Genocide?’ book, Radio Liberty reports.

He stated on Monday that the Genocide recognition process is one of the long lasted ones in the world history and he demands the world to bring it to an end. “The historians have completed their mission, now it is the time for judges, who will demand proper punishment for guilt and compensation for the Genocide victims. »April 21, at St. Peter of Hamburg, was commemorated the 97th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in the presence of more than 700 people. Guests included the leader of German Greens, of Turkish origin, Cem Özdemir. During his speech C. Özdemir called on the government of Turkey to stop its policy of denial of the Armenian genocide and encouraged Turkish civil society to revisit and analyze “these tragic pages of its history.” Ertan Tobrk, the leader of the Kurdish Alevi community in Germany has told his side that his people had recognized and condemned the Armenian genocide carried out by the Turkish government. A representative of the Assyrian-Chaldean community in Germany also condemned Turkey for genocide. Armen Mardirosian Ambassador of Armenia in Germany also spoke at the event. The choir “Gayane” composed of Armenians, Germans and Turks has interpreted European and Armenian songs.

Orhan Kemal Cengiz, the columnist of the Turkish Radical paper published his second article on the Armenian Genocide entitled ‘Compensation and Decision’ where he talks about the possible steps Turkey can make towards the Armenian Genocide.

“Turkey can solve the Armenian issue both on a humanitarian and on a legal level. We acknowledge that a great human tragedy occurred in 1915. We condemn the Government of the Young Turks, who organized it and apologize to our Armenian brothers. Turkey must not stop at only apologizing but must develop a legal approach for compensation.

AGMA hosts “Witnesses to the Armenian Genocide” exhibit.

PanARMENIAN.Net –  The Armenian Genocide Museum of America announced the opening on April 5 of an exhibit entitled “Witnesses to the Armenian Genocide.”

AGMA hosts The exhibit brings together the surviving photographic record of the Armenian Genocide produced by German witnesses. The exhibit is being presented with the Armenian Assembly of America and the Armenian National Institute.

The Witnesses to the Armenian Genocide exhibit is hosted by the Lutheran Church of the Reformation. The Lutheran Church of the Reformation has been serving the Capitol Hill community since 1869 and its congregation strongly supports ecumenical activities. [Read more…]

Slovak official: any Turk denying Armenian Genocide in Slovakia will be jailed

PanARMENIAN.Net –  On April 4, a wreath laying ceremony was held at a khachkar-obelisk in center of Bratislava, Slovakia, in memory of Armenian Genocide victims, press service of Forum of Armenian Associations of Europe (FAAE) reported.

Slovakia’s Supreme Court Chairman Štefan Harabin, President of Armenian Constitutional Court Gagik Harutyunyan, Chairman of RA Court of Cassation Arman Mkrtumyan and FAAE Chairman Ashot Grigorian partook in the event. In his speech, Mr. Harabin noted that he attaches great importance to “Law criminalizing the Armenian Genocide denial” adopted by the Slovak government and parliament. He said that any Turkish official regardless of his rank and any other person who dares deny the fact of the Armenian Genocide in Slovakia will immediately be sentenced to 5 years in prison.
