YEREVAN. – The delegation, headed by India’s vice-president Mohammad Hamid Ansari visited Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex in Yerevan on Tuesday.

Vice President was accompanied by Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian, First Deputy Mayor of Yerevan Kamo Areyan, Ambassador of India to Armenia Yogeshwar Sangwan and Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute Director Hayk Demoyan. Hamid Ansari laid a wreath to the Memorial and flowers to the Eternal flame.

Indian official and the Foreign Minister of Armenia took photo on the background of Ararat mount.

Hamid Ansari also visited the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute, where he got acquainted with the details of the cruel plan of the leadership of the Ottoman Empire to exterminate the Armenian people. Asked about his impressions, the Indian official noted that the monument which was a reminding of a human mistake.

In the book of condolences he wrote that the monument was the vivid evidence of the fact that the Armenians suffered from severe violence.

Azerbaijan Dictator Aliyev appoints wife as vice president

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has appointed his wife, Mehriban Aliyeva, as first vice president of Azerbaijan.

Aliyev’s order on the appointment was posted on the presidential website on February 21, RFE/RL reports.

Aliyev has been president of the oil-producing former Soviet republic since October 2003.
He has been accused by right groups and Western governments of persecuting opposition politicians, human rights defenders, and journalists.
RFE/RL journalist Khadija Ismayilova spent 17 months in prison in 2015-16 over financial-crimes charges that she and supporters say were government revenge for her reporting on alleged corruption involving Aliyev and his relatives.

Hillary Taps Wall Street Crony, Anti-Bernie Pro-TPP, Former DNC Head as VP

The Hillary Clinton campaign surprised nobody in the political establishment by defying all logic going for the most heinously crooked and boring sidekick this side of Mike Pence.

“Let’s be really clear: It should be disqualifying for any potential Democratic vice presidential candidate to be part of the lobbyist-driven effort to help banks dodge consumer protection standards and regulations designed to prevent banks from destroying our economy,” Democracy for America executive director Charles Chamberlain said in a statement Thursday.

“Our presidential ticket cannot beat the bigot by simply being not-Donald Trump,” reminded Chamberlain whose group propelled Bernie Sanders in the primary. “To win in November, our ticket need to have an unquestionably strong record in the fight against income inequality, one of the defining issues of the 2016 election.”

Hillary Clinton, by contrast, has calculated that her campaign does not need the support of the Bernie voters to dispatch Donald Trump in November instead positioning herself to capture some of the Republicans who are dismayed with their nominee’s uncouth temperament, harsh words, and proclivity to walk the line of racism all too often.

In Kaine, Hillary is choosing the US Senator from Virginia who has a long history of executive experience as that state’s former Governor with a personality that is unlikely to steal the show from the Democratic nominee. Kaine is also the epitome of a Beltway establishment politician, however, which won’t play well with the Bernie Sanders crowd.

Kaine notably voted to provide President Obama fast-track negotiating authority for the controversial Trans-Pacific Partnership deal that would fetter away American sovereignty to an unelected cabal that can force US taxpayers to compensate companies whose products violate the country’s health and safety standards. The secretive deal, many worry, would also lead to more outsourcing of US jobs and a further crackdown on American workplace protections. Kaine’s spokeswoman confirmed that the US Senator is a proponent of TPP saying that he was “obviously favorably inclined” to the deal.

His policy on regulating Wall Street may be far worse even than his position trade. Maine state Rep. Dianne Russell explained that “Kaine, in what many consider a signal to Wall Street, signed two letters this week to banking regulators and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau urging them to loosen regulations of the financial industry. That sentiment flies in the face of the majority of democratic voters who supported both Clinton and Senator Bernie Sanders.”

The Virginia Senator has also called for greater NATO presence to combat the threat of Russian “aggression” in Crimea and serving as a resounding critic of Moscow’s efforts to stabilize Syria arguing that President Putin only looks to prop up Assad rather than combat Daesh.

Donald Trump is choosing Mike Pence as his running mate, NBC News has learned.

Pence, a former congressman and the current governor of Indiana, flew from Indianapolis to the New York area Thursday ahead of a planned Friday morning joint appearance with the presumptive Republican nominee in Manhattan.

Pence, who served as a congressman for more than a decade before being elected governor of Indiana in 2012, has been viewed as a frontrunner for the job who could bring governing experience, knowledge of Capitol Hill and conservative credentials to Trump’s ticket.

Influential figures within Trump’s staff were said to be urging the real estate mogul to pick Pence, whose record of conservative governance could soothe Republicans wary of Trump’s unconventional proposals and inexperience in Washington policy-making.

The final decision came after weeks of deliberation and hours of uncertainty on Thursday as rumors about the pick flew while sources in Trump’s orbit insisted publicly and privately that no decision had been finalized.

Trump’s son, Don Jr., told NBC News in an interview Thursday afternoon that the shortlist is “down to three” — meaning Pence, Chris Christie and Newt Gingrich — but that his father would “come up with a decision today.”

The final call came after an unusually public vetting process, with each of the three finalists campaigning alongside the candidate in appearances widely viewed as auditions for the job.

Trump’s team was impressed with Pence’s fiery performance at a rally in Westfield, Indiana on Tuesday night. The governor and his wife met at their home with the candidate, his son, daughter and son in-law on Wednesday morning, stoking further speculation that he would be Trump’s the ultimate choice.

Sources close to Pence and Trump were preparing for the likelihood of a Pence pick early Thursday but warned that the final choice would be made by the candidate alone.

Without confirming that he was not the choice, Gingrich – who had been viewed as the most likely alternative, said in an interview Thursday that “it was a very great honor to be considered” for the job.

Vice Premier of China, Zhang Gaoli to visit Armenia

According to information and public relations department of the Government of Armenia, the Chinese official is to meet with Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan and Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan. The parties will sign a series of documents on bilateral cooperation.

Washington US Vice President Joseph Biden hosts prayer to commemorate #ArmenainGenocide victims

United States Vice President Joseph Biden and U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power, joined President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, Catholicos Karekin II, and Catholicos Aram I, in a prayer service as part of the National Armenian Genocide centennial commemoration at the National Cathedral. Over two thousand Armenian Americans filled the iconic sanctuary in the solemn centennial anniversary of the first genocide of the twentieth century, Massis Post reports.

Guests and representatives of various faiths gathered for “The Holy Martyrs of the Armenian Genocide: A Prayer for Justice and Peace” to remember those lost in the Genocide and to demonstrate gratitude for the regeneration of life for which the survivors and their saviors worked so hard.

The Most Rev. Dr. Katharine Jefferts Schori, Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, welcomed attendees to the service and the Rev. Dr. Olav Fykse Tveit, General Secretary of the World Council of Churches, delivered the homily. The interfaith ceremony was led by His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, and His Holiness Aram I Catholicos of the Holy See of Cilicia.

Also in attendance were the descendants of saviors who contributed to the survival of thousands of Armenians a century ago. During the service, they were acknowledged and praised for their human compassion and selfless bravery.

“Worshippers of all faiths long for a world of tolerance and devoid of hate and violence,” said Noubar Afeyan, Chair of the NCAGC Steering Committee, who is himself the descendant of a Genocide survivor.

Reflecting on the day’s service, the Armenian President offered his perspective:

“It was truly an honor to address the congregation at the National Cathedral,” said President Sargsyan. “Today’s ecumenical prayer demonstrated a powerful call to unite this community in the spirit of gratitude, justice and peace.”

“It is important to recognize that we must work together to forge a more peaceful future. Genocide can happen anywhere, at any time; there is no generation, religion or ethnic group that is immune—history has shown this. What happened in 1915 to the Armenian people whether we call it tragedy for geopolitical reasons or massacres, it is genocide by its very intent and means, and genocide is a crime against humanity” emphasized His Holiness Aram I during the ceremony.

“We seek to inspire a change of spirit in people—an awakening of the heart that will influence future generations. The events in Washington are a testament to our strength, 100 years after the Genocide, as we join together to promote peace, honor those lost, and protect those at risk around the world no matter their race, religion or ethnicity,” said His Holiness Karekin II.

The service is part of a series of commemorative events planned by the NCAGC to mark the 100th anniversary of the Genocide. Upcoming events include a concert at the Strathmore featuring performances by renowned Armenian musicians May 8 at 8 p.m., a Divine Liturgy at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception May 9 at 10 a.m., a banquet dinner and awards ceremony at the Marriot Marquis May 9 at 5:30 p.m., and various other exhibitions and cultural events.

Armenian Genocide Will Never Be Forgotten, Says Uruguay’s Vice President

MONTEVIDEO (Agencia Prensa Armenia)—Before his trip to Yerevan, Vice President of Uruguay Danilo Astori spoke at Carrasco International Airport with one of the members of the Armenian National Committee of Uruguay about the objectives of his official visit to Armenia.

“The Armenian Genocide will live forever in our memory. There is no history or future without memory,” remarked Astori.

“I hope my journey will help to further deepen our ties of friendship with the great country of Armenia.”

During the term of President José Mujica ending next March 1, a number of official visits to Armenia were conducted. Foreign Minister Luis Almagro, Minister of Tourism and Sports Liliam Kechichian and Under Secretary of Foreign Ministry Luis Porto traveled to Armenia on official visits. The President of the House of Representatives Jorge Orrico also visited the Republics of Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh with a multiparty delegation of legislators and businessmen in 2012.
