Armenian trucks stuck at Lars checkpoint: Ministry negotiates with Georgian and Russian partners

July 3, 2018 By administrator

Armenia’s ministry of transport, communication and information technologies is holding talks with the Russian and Georgian partners in connection with the accumulation of Armenian trucks at the Lars border checkpoint, the ministry spokesperson Anahit Arakelyan told Armenpress.

She said the problem is linked with the system installed at the Georgian checkpoint which supposes ticket booking. “Talks are underway to simplify the procedure”, she said.

According to some media reports nearly 1500 Armenian trucks loaded with agricultural products were stuck in traffic jam at the Lars checkpoint.

One of the drivers of the truck released a video on internet stating that most of the drivers are at the checkpoint for already 7 days.

Russia Points to Rise in Trucks Heading From Turkish Border to Syria

June 2, 2016 By administrator

increase turkish TrucksThe flow of trucks from the Turkish-Syrian border heading towards the provinces of Aleppo and Idlib in Syria has increased in the past 72 hours, the Russian center for Syrian reconciliation at the Hmeimim airbase said in a daily bulletin posted by the Russian Defense Ministry.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – “In the past 72 hours, the flow of trucks from the Turkish-Syrian border to the A’zaz settlement in the Aleppo province, as well as to… the Dar-Taaza settlement in Idlib province, where, according to locals’ statements, militants have been arriving in the last few days, has significantly increased,” the Thursday statement says.

According to the reconciliation center, the locals have been reporting an “intense movement” of militants in regions north of the city of Aleppo.

Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with government forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad fighting numerous opposition factions and extremist groups.

Both Moscow and Damascus have accused Turkey of sponsoring terrorism inside of Syria. In December 2015, Russia presented evidence of Islamic State (IS, also known as Daesh) smuggling oil across the Turkish border.

Overall, the cessation of hostilities regime in Syria has been violated three times in the past 24 hours, according to the Russian military. The violations were registered in Syria’s Damascus province.

Trucks carrying Turkish exports blocked at Russian border: Association

ISTANBUL – Reuters,

Around 1,250 trucks carrying Turkish exports have been blocked from entering Russia and are stranded at border posts awaiting clearance, a senior shipping industry representative told Reuters on Nov. 30.

Six days after NATO-member Turkey shot down a Russian fighter jet in the first known incident of its kind since the Cold War, calls for calm have gone largely unheeded. Ankara refuses to back down and Russia responds with sanctions.

“Russia has not given permission to Turkish trucks for entry or transit passage for the past four days,” Fatih Şener, managing director of Turkey’s International Shippers Association (UND) said in an interview.

“Apart from the trucks waiting at the border posts, it doesn’t allow those that have entered the country but waiting to discharge their load at the customs. This is the case for Romanian, Bulgarian, Kazakh and Moldovan trucks carrying Turkish goods,” he said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said he is waiting for an apology over the downing of an Su-24 warplane along the Turkish-Syrian border, and approved a round of economic sanctions against Ankara.

Trucks are stranded in Ukraine and Georgia for checks, which Şener says now are more thorough than before and that the economic cost of the delay since last week is around $50,000 to $60,000. Furthermore, a total of 800 containers are also waiting for clearance in the Turkish Black Sea port of Samsun and at the Russian port of Novorossiysk.

Around 100 trucks awaiting transit passage at the Russian border are now seeking alternative routes. “Azerbaijan has allowed entry and these trucks will go to Central Asia through this route, which is much more costly,” he said.

Turkey mainly sells food, agricultural products and textiles to Moscow and is also one of the most popular holiday destinations for Russians. Around 50 percent of Turkey’s exports into Russia, which totaled $6 billion last year, go by land.

Turkey Main opposition CHP to share evidence of trucks carrying arms to Syria

June 24, 2014 By administrator

Main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has claimed that the government sent trucks full of arms to Islamic State of 187024_newsdetailIraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants fighting the Syrian regime, stating that the CHP will soon share the details of the government’s transfer of these arms through certain documents.

Speaking at his party’s parliamentary group meeting on Tuesday, Kılıçdaroğlu harshly criticized the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government for its alleged support for ISIL militants and several other opposition groups fighting the Syrian regime. Blaming the government for ISIL’s kidnapping of Turkish people in Mosul two weeks ago, Kılıçdaroğlu said: “We have been telling them, even up until now, to stop transferring arms to the region [the Middle East]. Hundreds of trucks went there. All of them were full of arms. In the coming days, our friends will share a file on this issue. You will see how they are transferring the arms. We will share all the details regarding this transfer with the public.”

Pointing to the ongoing turmoil that erupted in Iraq after ISIL militants started to take over northern Iraqi cities one by one in early June, Kılıçdaroğlu said: “Any unrest that erupts in the region will also affect Turkey negatively. The source of this unease is [Prime Minister] Recep Tayyip Erdoğan,” adding that Erdoğan had destroyed Turkey’s prestige in the world with the failed foreign policy that his government has been deploying in the Middle East. Stating that Erdoğan will not even call ISIL a terrorist organization, Kılıçdaroğlu asked how a person can sympathize with a group that kills and tortures people. Recalling that nearly 100 Turkish people have been held hostage by ISIL for over two weeks, Kılıçdaroğlu said that about 300,000 Turkmen have had to leave their residential areas to escape the ISIL militants in Iraq, but Turkey and Erdoğan have not done anything to rescue the captives or support the Turkmen.

VIDEO: Turkey Footage shows raid on Syria-bound MİT trucks

June 24, 2014 By administrator

New footage has emerged showing a raid, which took place last January in the southern province of Adana, on trucks belonging to the Turkish National Intelligence n_68208_1Organization (MİT) bound for Syria.

Since the raid, a court has accepted an indictment on spying charges against the 13 soldiers who stopped and searched the trucks.

Prosecutors have accused the soldiers of conducting spying activities against Turkey and the soldiers were also accused of wiretapping seven MİT members, as well as the family members of an eighth MİT officer.

The trucks were stopped on Jan. 19, causing an uproar with claims that the trucks were secretly carrying weapons to Syria. The government slammed the prosecutors and soldiers involved in the operation, arguing that both the truck and the personnel were protected by MİT’s legal immunity.

Interior Minister Efkan Ala said the truck was carrying aid to Turkmens in Syria, but did not provide any further details about its cargo.
