Armenian civic activists are planning to hold a march in Yerevan later today to extend their solidarity and support to Garo Paylan, the Turkish-Armenian lawmaker who has severely been beaten in parliament,
They activists have announced the event on Facebook.
They are planning to gather outside the central headquarters of Haypost to head to the UN Office.
In a speech at the Turkish Grand National Assembly in April (days before the Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day), Paylan resurrected the Armenian intellectuals and public figures, killed, arrested and exiled in the Genocide, calling for efforts to create a special commission investigating the circumstances behind their deaths and disappearance.

Day of Shame: 27 Years After Earthquake http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/day-of-shame/
27 years after a destructive earthquake rocked the Soviet Republic of Armenia (December 7, 1988) and claimed 25,000 lives, thousands of families still remain homeless and hopeless in what is now the second largest city of the independent Republic of Armenia.
Photojournalist Hayk Barseghian made stunning photographs about 13 poorest and homeless families in Gyumri, who might face the risk of perishing in subzero temperatures. Deeply moved by the desperation he witnessed, the photographer is now looking to raise £120,000 to buy 13 houses for those families.
You can help by contributing a small donation and you can help even more by spreading the word about this project. The purpose of this action is not only to help those 13 families, but also to raise awareness of the fact, that 4000 families are still in need of a house. 27 years ago Soviet Leader Mikhail Gorbachev promised to fully reconstruct the broken town and this was followed by endless promises made by consecutive Armenian governments, who came up with various reconstruction campaigns. Unfortunately the lack of resources, poor management and widespread corruption left these people hopeless.
Now it is time for us, the global citizens, to take the matter in our hands. Act now!
The photographer Hayk Barseghian and a small group of friends are giving away his photos to you. Use them with your heart and spread the word! The Next Steps The donations will be used to purchase 13 houses and the resettlement of each family will be filmed and presented to you, so you can share their joy.
Detailed reports on all the expenses and scanned copies of all the invoices will be displayed on Hayk Barseghian’s photography page. This will demonstrate that the problem can be tackled and it will be a prime example of working transparently.
The Next Steps
With the money raised we will purchase 13 houses and will film the resettlement of each family so you can share with their joy.
We will present detailed report on Hayk Barseghyan’s photography page (https://www.facebook.com/haykbarseghyan/) with scanned copies of documents to show how exactly the money is used.
In doing so, we will both demonstrate the problem can be tackled, as well as show a prime example of working transparently in a country where gross missuse of resources is one of the reasons while the problem persists in the first place.

Athens, smugglers receive support in Turkey
Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos said Turkey was not doing enough to reduce the number of migrants arriving in Europe and accused Turkish port officials of helping people smugglers, drawing a denial from Ankara on Monday.
Turkey reached a deal with EU officials late last year to keep more refugees inside its borders and stop them travelling onto Europe. Thousands fleeing civil war in Syria have made the perilous journey from Turkey, across the Aegean Sea to Ankara’s long-term regional rival Greece, many of them dying on the way.
“I greatly fear that Turkish people smugglers are getting support from the authorities,” Pavlopoulos said in an interview with the Sueddeutsche Zeitung published on Monday.
“In particular, the port authorities act as if they don’t notice anything. There are cases in which smugglers have supposedly been helped. We have evidence for this,” he said.
A senior Turkish official strongly denied the allegations, saying Ankara was determinedly fighting irregular migration.
“Allegations that Turkish authorities have closed their eyes to human trafficking and helped smugglers are baseless and slander,” the official told Reuters.
He said statistics showed Turkey had prevented the passage of nearly 200,000 irregular migrants and caught more than 3,800 people smugglers in 2015.
“In an environment where bilateral cooperation in the fight against irregular migration has intensified so much, the Greek president’s comments were met with astonishment,” he added.
Pavlopoulos said Greece was still prepared to contribute towards the 3 billion euros ($3.3 billion) pledged by the EU to Turkey to help care for Syrian refugees as long as Ankara fulfilled its obligations.
“Up to now Turkey has not delivered,” Pavlopoulos, who is due to meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel later on Monday, told the paper.
The European Commission said earlier this month it was far from satisfied with Turkey’s containment of migrants as the number of new arrivals to Europe remained far too high.
Greece President: We will continue supporting Armenian Cause
Greece will continue to support the Armenian Cause.
The President of Greece, Prokopis Pavlopoulos, stated the aforesaid at his talk Monday in Athens with Catholicos Aram I of the Great House of Cilicia of the Armenian Apostolic Church.
Aram I, for his part, first welcomed the conference titled “Peaceful Coexistence of Religions and Cultures in the Middle East,” and which Greece had organized.
The Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia also highly praised the stance of Pavlopoulos, who has supported the Armenian Cause ever since entering politics and today maintains this stance as the President of Greece.
President Pavlopoulos, in turn, stated that he has respect for the Armenian people and their just cause, and also praised the Armenian community of Greece.
Egypt President Sisi Praises Russian Role in Syria Stabilization
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi gave a positive assessment of the actions taken by the Russian armed forces in Syria, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi has described in a phone call with President Vladimir Putin Russia’s contribution to the stabilization of the situation in Syria as positive, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Thursday.
According to Peskov, Sisi called the Kremlin on Wednesday to congratulate Putin on his birthday.
“The sides also discussed the Russian military operation in support of the Syrian army,” Peskov said.
“Sisi gave a positive assessment of the actions taken by the Russian armed forces [in Syria],” he stressed.
Russia’s Sukhoi Su-25, Su-24M and Su-34 attack aircraft, with the support of Su-30 jets, commenced precision airstrikes against ISIL targets in Syria on September 30, following a request from Syrian President Bashar Assad.
On Wednesday, Russia launched a total of 26 cruise missiles from combat ships in the Caspian Sea against ISIL targets.

Russia: More than 70 percent of Russians support Moscow’s bombing campaign in Syria: Poll
More than 70 percent of Russians support Moscow’s bombing campaign against Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in Syria but the danger of getting sucked into a protracted war is not lost on the public, a new poll showed Oct. 8.
The study conducted just days after President Vladimir Putin secured permission from parliament to launch air strikes in Syria found that most Russians approve of his latest decision to use force abroad.
The launch of strikes in Syria is Russia’s first major military involvement outside former Soviet Union territory since the invasion of Afghanistan in 1979.
Seventy two percent of respondents said they approved of the bombing campaign and 46 percent said they agreed with the decision of the rubber stamp parliament’s upper house to allow Putin to use force abroad, said the independent Levada Centre.
Assad says Turkish support ‘main factor’ in Idlib takeover
(Reuters) – Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has said Turkish support was the main factor that helped insurgents to seize the northwestern Syrian city of Idlib from his government’s control last month.
Idlib, a short drive from the Turkish border, is only the second provincial capital to fall to insurgents in the four-year-old civil war. It was captured by an alliance of Islamist groups including al Qaeda’s Syrian arm, the Nusra Front.
“Any war weakens any army, not matter how strong, no matter how modern,” Assad said in an interview with Swedish newspaper Expressen, published on Friday.
In the fall of Idlib, “the main factor was the huge support that came through Turkey; logistic support, and military support, and of course financial support that came through Saudi Arabia and Qatar.”
A Turkish government spokesman denied the claim. Turkey is one of the states most hostile to Assad.
The Syrian conflict is estimated to have killed around 220,000 people. Assad has lost control over much of the north and east while trying to shore up his control over the main population centers in the west, with the help of allies including Iran and the Lebanese group Hezbollah.
Idlib has been targeted by heavy Syrian army air strikes since it fell to the insurgents. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said there were at least 54 strikes on Friday.
The monitoring group said these included 17 barrel bombs, packed with explosives and shrapnel and dropped from helicopters. Government officials could not be reached for comment.
The Observatory said government forces had killed two leading al Qaeda figures, both Gulf Arabs, south of Idlib city.
Starting next month, the U.N. envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura is planning to consult Syrian protagonists and interested states on a new round of peace talks. Past attempts have failed to make progress.
Asked about the initiative, Assad said the Syrian crisis had been complicated by external intervention.
Referring to states that are hostile to him, including Turkey, he said de Mistura was aware that if “he couldn’t convince these countries to stop supporting the terrorists and let the Syrians solve their problem, he will not succeed”.
The United States wants to see Assad gone from power and has rejected the idea of allying with him against Islamic State, which has taken over large parts of Syria. In a series of interviews with Western media, he has repeatedly pressed his case that the jihadist groups in Syria pose a threat to Western states.
“Syria is a fault line,” Assad said. “When you mess with this fault line you will have the echoes and repercussions in different areas, not only in our area, even in Europe.”
