Kuwait Airways can bar Israeli passengers, German court rules

November 17, 2017 By administrator

Kuwait Airways canceled an Israeli passenger’s ticket because of their citizenship. Nothing wrong with that, said a court in Frankfurt — and provoked an outcry.

A court in the German city of Frankfurt ruled on Thursday that Kuwait Airways was within its rights to refuse to transport an Israeli because of their citizenship.

In its judgement, the court said it was “not reasonable” for the airline to transport a person if doing so risked severe legal consequences for its employees in Kuwait.

Kuwaiti law prohibits companies from doing business with Israelis.

The passenger had sued the airline for discrimination after it refused to fly him from Frankfurt to Bangkok via Kuwait City in 2016.

The details of the ruling

The court adjuged that:

  • Their evaluation did not consider “whether the law of a foreign country … makes sense” from a German legal view
  • The Israeli could not be compensated for the airline’s action because it was not discriminatory under German law
  • “Germany’s anti-discrimination law prohibits, among other things, discrimination because of race, ethnicity or confession. Discrimination because of citizenship is, by contrast, not covered by the law.”

What were the reactions?

The case in Frankfurt follows similar discrimination cases against Kuwait Airways in Switzerland and the US. Courts in those instances ruled against the company.

The Israeli’s lawyer, Nathan Gelbart, condemned the judgement. “This is a shameful verdict for democracy and for Germany in general,” he said. “This verdict cannot stand.”

Frankfurt Mayor Uwe Becker echoed the sentiment, saying: “To my mind, an airline that practices discrimination and anti-Semitism by refusing to fly Israeli passengers should not be allowed to take off or land in Frankfurt, or at any other airport in Germany.”

Armenia: Zvartnots airport passenger traffic grew by 12% in 2016

January 13, 2017 By administrator

2012 Zvartnots airport navigation system ranked number 1 with international compliance standard.

The passenger traffic at Yerevan’s Zvartnots international airport soared by 12% in 2016 as compared to the previous year.

In all the Armenian airports, the traffic grew by 10.4% in January-December 2016, up by around 200.000 passengers overall.

According to the General Department of Civil Aviation, 2.105.540 passengers have used the services of the airport in the reporting period.

In 2016, 18.269 tons of cargo has been transported, up by 80.4% against 2015.

It might surprise many of the Armenian Diaspora used to hearing about institutional shortcomings in Armenia’s government services, but the aviation regulator (the General Department of Civil Aviation, and air traffic control agency ARMATS is comparable or better than many of the world’s developed nations, according to the UN’s aviation watchdog, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).  Both Armenian agencies are based at Zvartnots International Airport, Yerevan.

BREAKING: Russia Will Suspend All Passenger Flights to Egypt Including Cairo

November 6, 2015 By administrator

1029684943Russian President has agreed that all flights over Sinai Peninsula should be suspended during the A321 crash investigation.
Russian President Vladimir Putin agrees with Federal Security Service (FSB) Alexander Bortnikov’s recommendation to suspend passenger flights to Egypt while the investigation of the Sinai plane crash is underway, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Friday.
“The head of state agreed with these recommendations. Putin instructed the government to work out mechanisms for the implementation of these FSB recommendations, and to ensure the return of Russian citizens,” Peskov told reporters.
Kremlin also says that Putin gave instructions to establish cooperation with Egypt to ensure flight safety.
The Russian Airbus A321 passenger plane crashed in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula on October 31 en route from Egypt’s resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh to St. Petersburg. All 224 people on board were killed. The crash is the biggest tragedy in the history of Russian and Soviet civil aviation.

British man attacks bus passenger for ‘speaking Turkish’ in London “you’re here for free benefits”

October 20, 2015 By administrator

n_90116_1A British man has been captured on video while verbally attacking a turkish speaking mant in London and throwing his zimmer frame off a bus for “speaking Turkish,” the Daily Mail has reported.

The video shows a man, traveling with a baby, launching a racist verbal attack against a Turkish passenger for talking in Turkish while living in the United Kingdom for “free benefits.”

“You’re talking in a different language but nobody knows what you’re saying,” the assailant can be heard saying.

“Go back to Turkey if you talk that sh*t. Oh no you can’t because sh*t gets blown up in Turkey,” he adds, perhaps referring to the double suicide bombings in Ankara on Oct. 10 that killed at least 102 people.

The attacker threatens the passenger before actually throwing his zimmer frame off the bus while getting off.

“‘That’s why you’re here mate – free benefits and a walker. Well your walker is going to go flying when this bus stops mate,” the clip shows the man saying.

The man then grabs the passenger’s zimmer frame while getting off the bus and throws it away while the rest of the passengers remain seated in silence.

The attacker also appeals to the rest of the passengers by urging them all to “vote UKIP,” referring to the U.K. Independence Party, an anti-EU party that wants strict quotas on immigration.
