 Ballistic Missile "Iskander"

Ballistic Missile “Iskander”

YEREVAN. – Whenever the Government of Armenia decides to use the Iskander-M tactical-operational missile systems, strikes will be made to the positions of the adversary.

Colonel Artavazd Yaghmuryan, head of the Missile Forces and Artillery Headquarters and Deputy Head of Department of the Armenian Armed Forces of the Ministry of Defense (MOD), stated the aforementioned at a press conference on Friday. He added that such a decision is the prerogative of Armenia alone, and not of any other country.

In Yaghmuryan’s words, before acquiring the Iskander long-range ballistic missile system, however, the MOD of Armenia had conducted a training of respective specialists.

Colonel Zorayr Gabrielyan, head of the Arms Operation  and Panzer Division of the Armenian Armed Forces, in turn, noted that Russia, from which Armenia has purchased the Iskander-M system, has no technical capacity to block its operation.

“It’s our [i.e. Armenia’s] weapon,” noted Gabrielyan. “And we are the one to also plan its use.”

As for the Smerch heavy multiple rocket launchers, in Yaghmuryan’s words, the Armenian crew of this weapon had undergone training back in 1996.

“We have specialists for the use of this weapon,” he added.

CORRUPTION Senior arrest of MoD

June 1, 2016 By administrator

karabakh corruption(RFE / RL) An army general and two other senior Defense Ministry Armenian officials have been arrested in the course of investigations on corruption.

General Melsik Chilingarian was arrested Monday night, ten days after having been dismissed from his post of head of department at the Ministry of Armaments. He supports the storage processing, maintenance and repair of arms and ammunition provided to the Armenian armed forces.

Colonel Armen Markarian, one of the subordinates Chilingarian, was also arrested. He was in charge of the vehicles used by the military. Markarian had also been dismissed early May.

The Investigation Committee of Armenia said that the two men are suspected of abuse of power, which would have “serious consequences.”

The third suspect, Colonel Mher Papian had an important position in the Defense Ministry department responsible for arms purchases. He was arrested as part of a separate investigation by the Commission of Inquiry. The agency enforcement explained that Papian faces prosecution for his “careless attitude toward military service.” “

Moreover, it is recalled that in late April, President Serzh Sargsyan had sacked Deputy Defense Minister Alik Mirzabekian and General Arshak Karapetyan, head of military intelligence, and General Komitas Muradian, commander of communication units the Armenian army.

These dismissals took place three weeks after the outbreak of fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh. A pro-government member was assigned to the “gaps” in the response of the Armenian army in the Azerbaijani offensive.

The inquiry committee has declined to say whether Monday’s arrests also have a connection with this offensive in Karabakh.

The “four-day war” has raised questions about the fact that the Armenian army was not aware of the attack before it occurs. Critics have also suggested that frontline troops lacked adequate modern weapons and other military equipment when they were attacked.

Armenia MOD: Azerbaijan aggression was planned in advance and disproportionate

April 6, 2016 By administrator

default67YEREVAN. – The military actions unleashed by Azerbaijan were unprecedented not solely since the truce in 1994, but also as compared to the first Karabakh war.

The Minister of Defense of Armenia, Seyran Ohanyan, stated the aforesaid at Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting.

“It was unprecedented in terms of the intensity of the fire [of shots], types of military equipment [used], the presence of terrorists, mercenaries as well as large numbers of casualties,” Ohanyan noted. “And the casualties of the Azerbaijani side were about ten times more than our [i.e. the Armenian side’s] casualties.

“Given the apparent nature of the aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan, they were prepared in advance and not proportionate.”

The Armenian defense minister added that there were evident war crimes, torture, decapitation, and unleashed actions.

Reflecting on the actions taken by the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) armed forces, the minister stressed: “As a result of their heroism, Azerbaijan has not achieved anything; even strategically. The control in the north and the south is under the NKR Defense Army, and in that respect, we need to bow, as a nation, before our soldiers.”

Syria: Russian MoD Accuses Turkey of Ongoing Hostilities in Syria’s Aleppo, Idlib

March 4, 2016 By administrator

1034853226Ankara is fully responsible for ongoing hostilities in Syria’s Aleppo and Idlib provinces as Turkey ensures steady supply of weapons to terrorists and keeps shelling groups of Kurdish militia fighting against al-Nusra Front, the Russian Defense Ministry said Friday.

HMEIMYM (Sputnik) — Last week, Russia and the United States reached an agreement on the ceasefire in Syria. The cessation of hostilities took effect at midnight on Saturday, Damascus time, generally holding across the country despite reported minor violations.

“Truck convoys with materiel and weaponry cross the border from Turkey to Syria round the clock. They are headed exclusively to areas controlled by al-Nusra Front and Ahrar ash-Sham terrorist groups,” Lt. Gen. Kuralenko, commander of the Hmeymim-based Russian center for Syrian reconciliation, told reporters.

Earlier, the Russian center on Syrian reconciliation said that it was receiving reports from the Syrian General Staff and Kurdish armed groups supporting the ceasefire, that complain of continuing artillery shelling from Turkey.

“Artillery shelling of Kurdish militia units, fighting against Nusra Front, continues from the territory of a Turkish border post near Yanankey,” Kuralenko said, adding that these actions hinder the restoration of peace and reconciliation in the Aleppo and Idlib provinces.

On February 13, Turkish artillery began shelling positions held by the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), a Kurdish group with links to the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD), in Syria’s Aleppo Province.

On February 25, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that the truce in Syria is not obligatory for Turkey to follow if the country feels a threat against its security.

Russian MoD to Reveal New Data on International Fight Against Terrorism

December 1, 2015 By administrator

1031029647Russia’s Defense Ministry has announced it will unveil “new data,” previously unknown to the public, pertaining to “The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in the fight against international terrorism.”

Though details of the media briefing, set for Wednesday at 3:00 PM Moscow time, have not been made public, many believe revelations might include evidence of Turkey’s involvement in the illegal sale of oil by Daesh, also known as ISIL/the Islamic State terror group.

On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Moscow has evidence that its Su-24 was shot down by Turkish forces on the Syrian border in order to protect oil deliveries from Daesh to Turkey, and that oil from Daesh-controlled fields is being exported to Turkey on an industrial scale.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan vehemently denied the allegations, vowing that if evidence does surface, he will resign from the presidency.
