Saudi king congratulates US for attacking Syria with missiles

April 8, 2017 By administrator

Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has called US President Donald Trump to praise in person Washington’s recent missile strike against a Syrian army air base.

During the phone conversation on Friday, King Salman congratulated US President Donald for what was said to be his “courageous decision,” the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

Meanwhile, a Saudi Foreign Ministry official told the SPA that the kingdom “fully supports the US military operations against military targets in Syria.”

Trump’s missile launch was the right response to the Syrian government as the international community has failed to put a halt to Damascus’ actions, the official further claimed.

Early on Friday, US warships in the Mediterranean launched a barrage of 59 Tomahawk missiles against Shayrat Airfield in Syria’s Homs Province. Damascus denounced the US assault as a “blatant aggression” that killed up to 15 people, including civilians, and caused “significant material damage.”

Saudi Arabia was among the first parties to speak out in praise of the Friday attack, expressing full support for the American military strike.

Riyadh, which has long pushed for the ouster of the Syrian government, stands accused of supporting anti-Damascus Takfiri groups both ideologically and materially.

Takfirism, which is a characteristic of many terrorist groups operating in the region, is largely influenced by Wahhabism, the radical ideology dominating Saudi Arabia.

The kingdom is a member of the US-led coalition, which has been conducting air raids against what are said to be Daesh terrorists inside Syria since September 2014 without any authorization from Damascus or a UN mandate.

Last February, Saudi Arabia offered for the first time to send ground troops to Syria to fight Daesh.

“The kingdom is ready to participate in any ground operations that the coalition (against Isis) may agree to carry out in Syria,” said military spokesman Brigadier General Ahmed al-Asiri in an interview with al-Arabiya TV news.

The Saudi bid was a source of tensions with former US president Barack Obama.

Erdogan can’t tell the deference between king & president “claims Saudi Arabia governed by presidential system”

May 26, 2015 By administrator

212352Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan claimed while delivering a speech at a pro-government think tank on Monday that Saudi Arabia, governed by a monarchy and ruled by the King, in fact resembles a presidential system.

In defense of a presidential system of government, Erdoğan also claimed that the UK is not a parliamentary democracy but rather a country that is run by an executive president where the queen interferes in the government.

He criticized the election system in the UK, saying it is broke and describing it as unjust.

In January, Erdoğan also uttered similar claims alleging that “nearly all developed countries” are governed by presidential systems.

He spoke at the Foundation for Political, Economic and Social Research (SETA), a think tank that is close to and financed by the government, asking the SETA academics to do research on the benefits of a presidential system.

Although Erdoğan claimed that the presidential system is the main issue in the election campaign and has strong backing from voters, almost all the polls suggest otherwise. Erdoğan failed to gain traction on his bid to become an executive president as most people list economic woes as their number one concern in the elections.

The president said he is also opposed to a bicameral system if Turkey decides to switch to an executive presidency, saying that a Senate may hamper the work of Parliament as the House of Representatives in the American system often clashes with the Senate.

Foley’s beheading ‘declaration of war’ on US: Rep. King

August 21, 2014 By administrator

Congressman Peter King says the beheading of American journalist James Foley by the ISIL terrorist group is “a declaration of war” on the United States.

376099_Rep. Peter King“The president has to announce that this is a basically almost a declaration of war on the United States,” the Republican from New York said in a phone interview with The Hill on Wednesday.

King, the chairman of the Homeland Security subcommittee on counterterrorism, said that the US war in Iraq is an unfinished business that poses a threat to the United States.

“We don’t have the luxury of just saying, ‘The war is over. The war’s not going on,’ ” he continued. “There is a war. It’s a threat to the US, and we have to fight back.”

The video of Foley’s execution, dubbed “Message to America,” came almost a month after US President Barack Obama authorized the use of airstrikes on ISIL in northern Iraq.

Rep. King said the video should be “a dramatic wake-up call” for Americans and members of Congress who oppose stepping up military action in Iraq.

“This should show us just how vicious and evil ISIL is,” King continued. “They are a threat to the homeland of the United States, a threat to American interests around the world, and American security around the world.”

On Wednesday, the White House confirmed the authenticity of the video.

The video shows an ISIL militant beheading Foley in retaliation for US airstrikes against the group in Iraq. It also warned that the group would slay kidnapped American journalist Steven Sotloff if the US president did not halt the air campaign.

Foley was on assignment for AFP and the Boston-based media company Global Post when he disappeared in Syria in 2012.

President Obama addressed the world on Wednesday, saying the US would eradicate the “cancer” of ISIL.

“The United States of America will continue to do what we must do to protect our people. We will be vigilant and we will be relentless. When people harm Americans anywhere, we do what’s necessary to see that justice is done and we act against ISIL standing alongside others,” the president said.
