Ankara criticizes German art depicting Erdogan as a dictator

July 5, 2017 By administrator

Ankara has slammed an art installation located outside the German Chancellery in Berlin that depicts Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as a dictator.

The installation shows a car with a black-and-white banner showing pictures of Erdogan, Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“Do you want this car? Kill dictatorship,” it reads.

Turkey’s Foreign Ministry said the installment only served to incite violence, while also slamming German police’s lack of intervention.

“The expression on the banner…makes a direct call to violence,” said the foreign ministry.

The incident occurred a few days before Erdogan is set to travel to Germany for a G20 summit, and after German officials rejected a request by the Turkish president to address ethnic Turks in Germany.

Relations have soured between Berlin and Ankara since a failed coup in Turkey in July last year. Germany has repeatedly criticized Turkey for a massive crackdown that was launched right after the coup, saying the action has been carried out beyond the rule of law.

The two countries have also clashed on several other issues, including Germany’s alleged support for Kurdish opponents and a referendum in Turkey last April, which gave Erdogan sweeping new powers.

Germany is home to some three million ethnic Turks. The country allowed in the Turks in the 1960s and 1970s as part of its massive post-war “guest worker” program. Erdogan held his last speech to members of the community in May 2015 in the city of Karlsruhe.

US Congressman: Erdogan is a dictator

May 23, 2017 By administrator

erdogan the dictatorU.S. Rep. Ted Poe called Turkish leader “a dictator” and slammed the attack his body guards on peaceful protesters in Washington on May 16.

“Madam Speaker, it looks like Turkish President Erdogan has brought his brutal crackdown on human rights to Washington, D.C.,” Poe said during his House floor speech.

“For years, Erdogan has attacked Turkey’s democratic institutions, undermined the rule of law, and violated Turkish civil liberties. On Tuesday, several bullies violently assaulted protesters outside the Turkish Embassy here in Washington. These Gestapo-type body guards beat peaceful demonstrators, in one case kicking a woman lying on the ground. This type of behavior is unacceptable.

Erdogan is becoming a Turkish dictator. One of the traits of a dictator is to violently quash opposition. He is showing he doesn’t believe in the democratic principles of free speech and peaceful assembly. But, Madam Speaker, we will have no foreign tyrant violating these sacred rights on American soil without consequences.

And that is just the way it is.”

Turkish Dictator accuses U.S. of creating “pool of blood” with policy on PYD Kurds

February 10, 2016 By administrator

205762Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday, February 10 accused the United States of creating a “pool of blood” in the region by failing to recognize the main Syrian Kurdish organizations as terror groups, AFP reports.

“Hey America… As you have never recognized them (as terror groups) the region has turned into a pool of blood,” Erdogan said in a lacerating attack on US policy, referring to the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) and its People’s Protection Units (YPG) militia.

His remarks escalated a growing row between Washington and key NATO member Turkey over the role of Kurdish fighters in the struggle against jihadists in Syria.

Turkey on Tuesday summoned the US envoy to Ankara in protest after the US State Department spokesman said that Washington did not recognise the PYD as a terror group and would continue to support its operations in Syria.

“Hey America! How many times have we had to tell you?” Erdogan said in his fiery address. “Are you together with us or are you with the PYD and YPG terror groups?”

“Is there a difference between the PKK and the PYD? Is there a difference with the YPG?” asked Erdogan, according to AFP.

“We have written proof! We tell the Americans “it’s a terror group”. But the Americans stand up and say ‘no we don’t see them as terror groups’.”

Azerbaijan to sue France 2 TV channel for calling Aliyev ‘dictator’

September 10, 2015 By administrator

197164Azerbaijani authorities are planning to file a lawsuit against France 2 after the French state-run TV channel aired a program slamming President Ilham Aliyev as a dictator, Agence France-Presse said quoting the lawyer for the Azeri side Olivier Prado.

“France 2 journalists Élise Lucet and Laurent Richard portray Azerbaijan as one of the worst dictatorships ever,” Prado told AFP.

The Monday, September 8 edition of Cash Investigation program featured a story about French President François Hollande’s visit to Azerbaijan in spring of 2014.

However, the footage shot in Azerbaijan, including interviews with opposition activists and human rights advocates was seized from the French journalists

According to Prado, Azerbaijan “no longer intends to tolerate such attitude and has every intention to take those who slander the country to the court,” Ru.rfi.fr. reports.
