First Suggested by Wally Sarkeesian now N1 wants TV debate RPA with Armenia’s Pashinyan Video

November 28, 2018 By administrator

Leader of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Vigen Sargsyan is pushing for a head-to-head TV debate with acting Prime Minister, head of My Step alliance Nikol Pashinyan ahead of the December 9 parliamentary elections in the country.

Sargsyan said in a Facebook post that he remains committed to his earlier pledge to engage in a TV debate with all the leaders of parties and alliances running for seats in the National Assembly.

However, he added, a separate bilateral debate in RPA – My Step format is “necessary”.

Citing Pashinyan’s “dense schedule”, Sargsyan said he leaves the choice of the day for a possible debate to the discretion of the acting PM.

Yair Auron: Knesset to hold debate on Armenian Genocide on July 5

June 29, 2016 By administrator

genocide israelIsrael’s  Knesset will hold debate on the Armenia Genocide on July 5 a month after Bundestag adopted resolution recognizing the Genocide, Dr. Yair Auron, an Israeli historian said in an interview with the Zoryan Institute .

“Israel refrained from allowing a public debate to have a free vote on the subject of the Armenian Genocide for fear of alienating the Turkish government, a key ally to Israel and the United States,” Auron believes.

The historian does not agree with the opinion on the uniqueness of the Holocaust.

“I cannot accept that because the Holocaust is not unique, and needs to be studied as one example of genocide and not in isolation. Israel, a state born out of the Holocaust, is expected not to barter with the memory of the genocide of another people,” he added.

Auron noted that American presidents avoid using the word genocide, but Israel has gone even further: not only denying the status of the Armenian Genocide, but honouring the tragic killing of a small group of Azerbaijanis at Khojaly during the Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict. Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said at a commemoration in 1915, ‘We are gathered here today to talk about the necessity to combine the experience of Israel and Azerbaijan in order to prevent such tragedies in the future.’

The historian called on Knesset to have a free vote on whether or not to recognize the Armenian Genocide.

“Now that Israel and Turkey have mended fences and are about to renew their diplomatic ties, the Knesset must give a clear message that Israel’s relations cannot be held hostage to Turkey’s denial of these incontestable historical facts, especially after Germany’s admittance of its complicity, as an ally of Ottoman Turkey. It should further emphasise that Armenian Genocide recognition by Israel is not about friendship or enmity towards Turkey, but it is rather a moral responsibility of Israel. Furthermore, after Germany’s admittance of complicity, the failure of the Israeli Knesset to openly label the ‘events of 1915’ as ‘genocide’ is no longer only a simple moral issue, it is also a matter of credibility,” he resumed.

Germany’s Genocide resolution to boost worldwide recognition campaign – debate

June 4, 2016 By administrator

f57529d1309329_57529d1309360.thumbThe German Bundestag’s recently adopted resolution, acknowledging the Ottoman-era killings of Armenians as genocide, essentially broadens the worldwide campaign towards Genocide recognition, according to an expert.
Commenting on the resolution’s wording at a news conference today, Vladimir Hakobyan, who specializes in international law, highlighted particularly the legal aspect of the decision.
“The recognition of a crime and its appropriate labeling are extremely important,” he said, meantime ruling out possible legal consequences for Turkey.
Ruben Melkonyan, a deputy dean at the Yerevan State University’s Department of Oriental Studies, highlighted the complicity factor, noting that Germany,  as a major European state, is known also for its multi-vector cooperation with Turkey.
“Unfortunately, they run counter also to the Armenian interests. It is important to remember that Germany gave home to Talaat, Enver and Cemal Pashas; hence the euphoria we see in Armenia is absolutely pointless,” he added.
Questioning the possibility of legal consequences, Melkonyan also called attention to the decision’s timing.
“What we need to consider further is why they recognized [the Genocide] especially now. With the German-Turkish relations being considerably entangled today, Europe really needs certain restraint mechanisms,” he added.
Melkonyan noted that the 11 Turkish parliament members, who backed the resolution, now face persecution by the Turkish authorities.
But he agreed that the fact is of cornerstone importance in the context of the international recognition campaign.

“What’s more important for me is the step which is to come next. Hence it is now time to bring them to light as evidence of a true happening and a tool to further reinforce the factual bases of the Armenian Genocide,” Melkonyan added.

Bernie Sanders Won the Debate, and Perhaps the Election, When He Defended Hillary Clinton

October 14, 2015 By administrator

Democratice debateIt was, without question, the climax of the debate. Hillary Clinton was defending herself against email allegations, when Bernie Sanders came to her rescue. In doing so, he not only demonstrated the decency that is the hallmark of his campaign, but also proved that he’s no ordinary politician.

Bernie Sanders doesn’t want to win the White House if it means losing his integrity. He’s willing to protect even his political rival if it’s in the name of justice.

This campaign cannot be about emails, but only Bernie Sanders was big enough to say that, on his competitor’s behalf.

Bernie Sanders: “What the Secretary said is right. And that is the American people are tired of hearing about your damn emails.”

Kurdish problem-oriented Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş challenged Turkey’s president and prime minister to attend a televised live discussion program with him, where they could openly debate.

“I called on him [President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan] and his smaller one [Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu]. Let’s [have a] discussion on TV; do you dare? If you trust yourself, your knowledge and wisdom, let’s appear alone. If you want, bring 100 advisors with you. Let’s openly [have a] discussion live,” Demirtaş said June 1, during his party’s rally in the southern province of Bitlis.

Demirtaş added if what Erdoğan has been saying was true, he would not hesitate to say it before him too, but if he had a wound, a lie, a sin or a crime, he would be afraid of it.

Demirtaş also said they needed to stop a government that was built on lies and fraud and which harmed humane, Islamic and conscious values.

Stating the HDP would establish a freedom and equality-based government, Demirtaş said nobody could be able to say anything against another’s’ attire.
