Catholicos’s life is in danger.

An emergency situation has been set up in Vayots Dzor province, where activists of the New Armenia, New Patriarch movement blocked the car of Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II. An official from the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin told Armenpress. Director of the Echmiadzin Information System, Father Vahram Melikyan, today Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II left for pilgrimage to Gndevank (Vayots Dzor Diocese) where the members of the well-known initiative blocked the movement of His Holiness. The road back to Gndevank is closed with cars and stones, and the members of the initiative sounded exhausted.

“The spiritual head of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church is in danger. These actions are condemnable and should be punished by the strictness of the law, “said the director of the Echmiadzin Information System.

Kurdish state would ‘endanger the region’ Turkish premier Davutoglu says

ANKARA, Turkey,— A Kurdish state would pose a danger to the region, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said in an interview with a German newspaper.

“A Kurdish independent state will endanger the region and turn it into chaos,” he told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung daily.

“Changing frontiers will bring about fighting between the neighboring countries, that is why it is better the frontiers remain as they are,” he added, in response to a question about Turkish fears of a Kurdish state in the Middle East.

Turkey has strong economic and political ties with its neighboring autonomous Kurdistan Region, but it has remained opposed to Erbil’s aspirations of independence from Iraq.

For decades, successive Turkish governments have had strained relations with the country’s estimated 15 million Kurdish minority, but last March the government began a peace process with the Kurds that has largely lagged due to foot dragging by Ankara.

Referring to Turkey’s Kurds, Davutoglu said that “everyone in Turkey has the right to participate in the political process.”

He added that, “The different communities living in Turkey are satisfied with our political system.”

Although Turkey has lifted a ban on the Kurdish language and allowed it to be taught at private schools, it still has not responded to demands that Kurdish children be taught their own language at public schools.

Aleppo’s Armenian community is in danger – expert

Tensions are high in Aleppo. Insurgents have seized control of some districts and there is danger both for Christian neighborhoods and the Armenian community, Arabist Sargis Grigoryan told reporters in Yerevan.

“The government forces cannot take drastic measures since there is population in Aleppo and if they launch an attack, there will be casualties among the population,” he said.

The Armenian community is still in danger, he noted.

Arabist Hayk Kocharyan said for his part that according to logic, after Kessab, the government forces should engage in the liberation of Aleppo.

“Logically, the government forces will gain control of Aleppo and its neighboring areas,” he said.
