Today August 31 just disappear in Yerevan the Armenian businessman and benefactor American Vahakn Hovnanian. He was born February 16, 1932 in Iraq. Businessman and public figure, benefactor, Vahakn Hovnanian was the brother of another wealthy benefactor, Hrayr Hovnanian. In 1952 he finished college in Baghdad and in 1956 the St. Joseph University in Philadelphia (Pennsylvania, USA) in the field of physics. In 1959 he had with his brothers founded the company “Hovnanian Brothers” where he was vice president of rand. In 1969 he embarked on the construction with the company “Hovhit”. The latter then knows an important growth and its subsidiaries are emerging. Their names “VS Hovnanian Group,” “Adelfia Water Company,” “Adelfia Sewer Company”, “Hovnanian Realty”, “Clear Title Agency” and “Grandview Cable”.

In 1985 with his son Singing he created the group “Cellular Vision” which would later take the name “Speedus”. In the 1960s during 4 years he is the chairman of the Armenian Church Surb Vartanantz the city of Richfield. He also became president of “Hovnanian International” (since 1998) and “Hovnanian Group”. Vahakn Honvanian was also very involved in humanitarian projects as well as the defense and development of Armenian culture and tourism in Armenia. Accompanied by his wife Hasmig Hovnanian he had in 1976 in the US city of New Milford (New Jersey) founded an Armenian school and assisted in the development of Armenian culture in the United States. In 2000 he had founded in Armenia, Sayat-Nova prices and 2002 prices “Vahakn” to encourage artists. In May 2001 he founded in Armenia, the Armenian Tourism Development Agency. In 1998 he built the residential area Vahakn in Yerevan.
