U.S. President Donald Trump has congratulated Armenian-American Danny Tarkanian on his big GOP primary win in Nevada.

U.S. President Donald Trump has congratulated Armenian-American Danny Tarkanian on his big GOP primary win in Nevada.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Democrats in Nevada have two open congressional seats to defend in November, and Tuesday’s primary voting set the stage for what could be some of the most expensive, hard-fought House races in the country.

Republican Danny Tarkanian, son of legendary UNLV basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian, and Democrat Susie Lee, a Las Vegas philanthropist, captured their parties’ nominations in southern Nevada’s 3rd District, where incumbent Democratic Rep. Jacky Rosen advanced to face GOP Sen. Dean Heller in what promises to be one of the most important races for the U.S. Senate.

Former one-term Reps. Steven Horsford, a Democrat, and Cresent Hardy, a Republican, also prevailed to set up a rematch in the 4th District. It stretches from north of Las Vegas through four rural counties in the western battleground state that Democrat Hillary Clinton carried in her loss to President Donald Trump in 2016.

Both House seats will be up for grabs in November and could play an important role in Democrats’ hopes of cutting into GOP majorities in Congress.

Fourth-term Rep. Mark Amodei fended off a GOP primary challenge from badly outspent tea party favorite Sharron Angle in northern Nevada’s 2nd District, and Democratic Rep. Dina Titus cruised to a lopsided victory in her bid for a fifth term in the heavily Democratic 1st District in Las Vegas.

Both incumbents will be heavy favorites in the fall.

In the sprawling 2nd District where no Democrat has won since the district was created in 1980, Clinton Koble — an Obama-era appointee to the U.S. Agriculture Department who picked up labor endorsements— defeated five other candidates.

Republican Joyce Bentley, a former Las Vegas real estate agent, won her primary in the 1st District, topping Fred Horne, who finished third in the primary two years ago.

Horsford, an ex-state lawmaker from Las Vegas, became the first African-American to represent Nevada in Congress when he won the seat in 2012.

Hardy, another former legislator from Mesquite, defeated him in 2014 then lost in 2016 to Democratic Rep. Ruben Kihuen, who announced early this year he would forgo a re-election bid amid allegations of sexual misconduct.

The two former congressmen wasted little time setting their sights on the November election, blasting each other’s records in the U.S. House within an hour of being declared primary winners.

Armenia: Republican backs plan to nominate Serzh Sargsyan for prime minister – spokesperson

April 12, 2018 By administrator

The Republican Party’s executive board unanimously backs the plan for nominating the third president for the prime minister of Armenia, according to the ruling party’s spokesperson.

Speaking to reporters after the board’s meeting late on Wednesday, Eduard Sharmazanov said they intend to submit the proposal to their council on Saturday to request an official decision. But he said they “aren’t yet sure” whether Serzh Sargsyan will be the Republican’s preferred choice.

“Under the Constitution, the governing political force is to nominate its candidate for the prime minister in the parliamentary system of Armenia. We are also aware that a meeting was held between the chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia [Serzh Sargsyan] and First Deputy Chairman [acting Prime Minister] Karen Karapetyan.

The RPA executive board finally initiated its discussions today [to consider] the future prime minister’s candidacy,” Sharmazanov added.
Acting Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan earlier announced a decision to back Serzh Sargsyan’s candidacy for cabinet leader’s post, citing major challenges and concerns linked to the country’s future sustainable development.

Karapetyan met with the outgoing president in his office on Saturday to brief him on his cabinet’s accomplishments (over the past period of his tenure since September 2016) and the reforms stemming from the constitutional transition to a parliamentary republic (based on the 2015 constitutional reforms).

On Monday, he met with Armen Sarkissian, already the fourth president of Armenia, to tender the executive’s resignation. The new cabinet is to be formed within 15 days after the new prime minister’s appointment (Article 150 of the Constitution).

Sharmazanov said the Thursday meeting also summed up the past 10 years of Serzh Sargsyan’s tenure.

“Those 10 years were complicated and full of challenges but at the same time, they marked a period of state building and security strengthening. So Mr President’s contribution is really invaluable to the strengthening of Armenia,” he said, admitting also the existing shortcomings and ommissions.

Sharmazanov said he sees essential differences from 2018, especially in the field of democracy-building, security strengthening and protection of human rights. As an important achievement, he highlighted the firmer approach to the exercise of the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) people’s right to self-determination.

“We thanked all the cabinet members, especially Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan, for the outcomes of the past 1.5 years,” he added

Armenian Election update: Way Out block: Republican Party loses its political monopoly

April 2, 2017 By administrator

The Republican Party has lost its political monopoly. This was reported by a member of Way Out party David Khazhakyan, commenting on the results of exit polls in the parliamentary elections.

According to him, the Republicans will not collect the necessary 50 + 1% to form the majority. “Taking into account the future picture of the parliament,  the Republican Party will be deprived of its political monopoly,” said Khazhakyan. In addition, commenting on the statements of the Republican party, that the opposition receives more leverages of influence on the decision-making process in the parliamentary government,  Khazhakyan noted that “RPA’s parliamentary system” is no different from what it used to be before.

According to another member of Way Out Block Mane Tandilyan, the bribery during the election was massive. “It raises doubts,” she said. At the same time, Tandilyan regretfully accepts that some people are prone to bribes and are ready to sell their votes. “We need to understand the reason and how can we change this situation,” she said.

Tandilyan agreed that the Republican party is unlikely to get 50 percent. “Two important portions of society did not come to elections. The supporters of the opposition and disillusioned citizens, including young people, “she said. She believes that, if this category of voters had come to cast their votes, there would have been a completely different picture.

Republican presidential candidate Senator Rand Paul says the hawkish members of his party are responsible for the creation of the ISIL Takfiri terrorists in the Middle East.

Paul blamed hawks like Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham for the creation of ISIL, saying the group “exists and grew stronger because of the hawks in our party who gave arms indiscriminately, and most of those arms were snatched up by ISIS (ISIL).”

Talking to MSNBC on Wednesday, Paul said, “These hawks also wanted to bomb [Syrian President Bashar] Assad, which would have made ISIS’ job even easier. They’ve created these people.”

Senator Graham, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said formerly that he advocated sending around 10,000 US troops to Iraq to help train and support militants fighting ISIL. report presstv

Graham is expected to announce his White House bid next Monday.

“Right now there are 1,500 groups, many of them bad people, including ISIS, that hawks in our party have been arming,” Paul noted.

The US and its allies have been conducting airstrikes against ISIL in Iraq and Syria since last year. However, the terror network is controlling large parts of the two countries.

The terrorists managed to capture Ramadi, the capital city of Iraq’s Anbar Province, last week.

The ISIL terrorists, who were initially trained by the CIA in Jordan in 2012 to destabilize the Syrian government, are engaged in crimes against humanity in the areas under their control.
