YEREVAN. – New Armenian air carrier Skynet plans to operate short-haul and medium-haul flights, representative of the company told reporters on Monday.
The Union of civil pilots of Armenia is a founder and owner of the company that has already acquired JetStream 32 plane.
“The aircraft has a 1200 km-long flight-range. We can cover domestic flights, including those on route from Yerevan to Kapan and Stepanakert, as well as Tbilisi, Batumi, south of Russia and north of Iran,” Grigoriy Vardanyan said.
Armenia International Airports CJSC running Zvartnots international airport supported the new company while purchasing the plane, Vardanyan said.
“They may support us on landing charges and services, given the importance of domestic flights for Armenia,” he added.
In the near future, the company plans to send the jet for maintenance and repairs to Germany or Sweden, and then it will return in late January. The company has already operated a charter flight that was honeymoon in Armenia.
Vardanyan said the company is not ready to open flights, but is considering the possible directions, including Gyumri and Stepanavan airports.
The Kapan Airport is not yet available, but in February 2013 during the visit of President Serzh Sargsyan to teh city the need to find funds for its renovation was highlighted.
